Jason Hallstrom’s memorial drew a large crowd of his friends and family
If the true measure of a man is how many friends he leaves behind, then Jason “Hoss” Hallstrom was quite a man. A very large crowd of his friends and family attended a memorial tonight at the Target located at Grand Ave. and 17th St., in Santa Ana. This was where Hallstrom was shot and killed by officers of the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) on March 15, 2013.
Hallstrom’s friend of eighteen years, Jeffrey Lowe, drove here all the way from Kingman, Arizona, with his wife. Tonight he led the memorial and at times was almost too choked up to talk. Tears flowed freely as Hallstrom’s associates took turns reminiscing about their departed friend. Continue reading
Carlos Bustamante’s wife appears to have filed for a legal separation
Embattled former Santa Ana City Councilman Carlos Bustamante is busy trying to fight a huge criminal case that has seen him charged with numerous felony sex crimes and public theft. But now he may be fighting another battle, in a different court.
A source tipped me off that Bustamante’s wife, Adrianna, apparently filed for a legal separation on March 26, 2013. Attorney Steven P. Dragna is listed as the petitioner’s lawyer, according to court records. She filed under her full maiden name of Hilda Adrianna Pichardo. Continue reading
Real Orange Panel Discusses FBI Investigation of Janet Nguyen
From the OC Politics Blog
On this You Tube video from the April 10th Real Orange program (PBS SOCal, KOCE Channel 50), Panelists
Mark Petracca (pictured), Rick Reiff, Michael Capaldi and Chris Mears discuss the ongoing FBI investigation of OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen‘s campaign fundraising.
Petracca, a UC Irvine Professor, also raises the very pertinent question of why the Orange County District Attorney has been less than aggressive about investigating OC politicos — versus the FBI. He also suggests that the investigation is excellent fodder for anyone planning to run against the Supervisor next year as she’s already planning her campaign for the 34th State Senate District next year to be vacated by Democrat Lou Correa. Nguyen is termed off the Board of Supervisors in 2016.
More questions arise about the SAPD shooting of Jason Hallstrom
I would imagine that the Orange County District Attorney will soon be issuing their findings on the shooting of Jason “Hoss” Hallstrom. It is likely that they will smear Hallstrom, who was shot in the back by Santa Ana police officers, who also wounded his friend Travis Mock. But already there are many questions being asked and the information coming out makes this shooting look even more .
No, I have no idea what Hallstrom’s criminal record was. That will come out soon enough. But his death does raise questions and those deserve to be aired. I received an email tonight from Hallstrom’s longtime friend, Karen Birtcher. Here is what she has pieced together so far: Continue reading

A Candlelight Vigil is going to be held in honor of Jason E. “Hoss” Hallstrom, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Target center on 17th and Grand Ave., in Santa Ana at 7 pm.
On March 15, Hallstrom and Travis Mock, 29, were being chased by SAPD SWAT officers on I-5 when they got off at Grand Avenue and headed north, Santa Ana authorities said. The officers in question ended up shooting Hallstrom to death, and wounding Mock.
Hallstrom left behind a daughter, Raven Starr Shine, who just turned 15 on February 12th. He had not seen her since she was two years old, and they finally met last year… after 14 years. Continue reading
Did the Santa Ana SWAT team shoot Hallstrom to help out Anaheim’s P.D.?
On March 15, Jason E. “Hoss” Hallstrom and Travis Mock, 29, were being chased by SAPD SWAT officers on I-5 when they got off at Grand Avenue and headed north, Santa Ana authorities said. The officers in question ended up shooting Hallstrom to death, and wounding Mock.
No one seems to know exactly what happened or why the SAPD SWAT team chased down and shot these individuals. However a friend of Hallstrom, Jeffrey Lowe, has contacted me with information that suggests the shooting was premeditated.
According to Lowe, it has been said that Mock has a million dollar law suit against the City of Anaheim for a O.I.S. (officer-involved shooting) that happened back in Feb. 2011. That is not a lot of money for a city awash in tourist tax revenue, however Lowe is wondering if the public is altogether aware just how the Anaheim/Santa Ana police departments are connected?
