“Santa Ana’s John Muir Fundamental Elementary School maintained a place in the Register’s top 10 for a second year, placing at No. 6 even with a student population that is 59 percent economically disadvantaged. Muir’s primary advantage over other Santa Ana Unified campuses is that families elect to send their kids to the school, making it one of the district’s three such elementary schools of choice,” according to today’s O.C. Register.
All of my four children have gone to Muir and one of them is still there, in the fourth grade GATE program. So we know from personal experience that Muir is a great school. That might explain why the Muir administrators and the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) chose not to reveal that a fifth grader, as we reported on January 24, brought a pellet gun to school and waited for his victim to come his way. The O.C. Register ignored this incident.
UPDATE: My daughter filed a police report. I imagine that the suspects we named are going to have a rough time with the SAPD tomorrow…
I received a panicked phone call from my son Joey last night. He is at UCLA, where he lives in an off-campus apartment with other students. He was wondering if our dog Sparky was lost. This took me by surprise as Sparky was sitting next to me on the couch. So I asked Joey why he thought Sparky might be lost. And that is when this tale took a turn for the weird.
Someone apparently put up lost dog fliers all over Downtown Santa Ana and in my own neighborhood. The fliers include my name and cell phone number and a picture of my dog that was posted a long time ago on Facebook. A friend of Joey’s saw the flier on a pole, while he was at the Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk last night and he texted the picture to Joey. We later found a flier on our own street, also on a pole. SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 30 years to life in state prison for breaking into five Orange County homes and touching female victims who were sleeping inside, including sexually assaulting an 11 and 13 year old girl. Roberto Jacobo Reyes, 50, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury Nov. 15, 2012, of one felony count of forcible lewd act on a child under 14, two felony counts of lewd act upon child under 14, and three felony counts of first degree residential burglary with sentencing enhancement allegations for committing lewd acts in the commission of residential burglaries, committing lewd acts on multiple victims, and for having a non-accomplice present during a residential burglary, and a sentencing enhancement for a 2003 prior strike for residential burglary. UPDATE: My son reports that many of the fifth graders in the classroom that included the pellet gun shooter knew the attack was coming – including the victim – but no one knew who the target was, and none of the students reported this to their teacher…
A sad story is developing at John Muir Fundamental Elementary School – one of the top schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District.
Apparently a fifth grader brought a pellet gun to school and waited for his victim to come his way. The shooter is now suspended, for five days, while the Santa Ana School Police investigate the matter to determine what happened and if “criminal intent can be alleged and/or proven or whether this matter will be resolved administratively by the on site Administration along with concurrence by our Student Support Services division to address the behavior of the student(s) involved,” according to the SAUSD School Police Chief, David Valentin, who responded tonight to my queries, via email. Details: On 1/20/13 at 8:57 pm officers were dispatched to the parking lot of 718 E. First Street for a report of a man down, covered in blood. Upon arrival, officers found a male adult lying in the parking lot, unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene. The male had been stabbed in the upper body. It is shocking and disappointing that our elected officials are attempting to remove Mr. Paul Walters as City Manager when he successfully salvaged the city budget preventing bankruptcy. Mr. Walters is an extremely valuable asset to Santa Ana on many fronts including his years as Santa Ana’s Chief of Police. As Chief he made Santa Ana safer which makes the city a more desirable place to buy homes, build homes, and open business. The Statistics are facts that speak for themselves. WOMAN SENTENCED TO 24 YEARS IN PRISON FOR STABBING NEW MOTHER IN ORDER TO KIDNAP HER BABY GIRL
SANTA ANA – A woman was sentenced today to 24 years in state prison for stabbing a new mother to kidnap her infant child. Gabriela Osorio, 30, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to one felony count each of attempted murder, kidnapping a child under 14 years of age, first degree residential burglary, criminal threats, false imprisonment by violence, and three felony counts of aggravated assault with a knife causing great bodily injury with sentencing enhancements and allegations for having a non-accomplice present during a residential burglary, causing great bodily injury, and the personal use of a deadly weapon.
