Brian Jose Miguel, a 23-year-old alleged gangbanger, was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison on Friday for the shooting death of Jimmy Hernandez, a 15-year-old boy, who was riding a bicycle in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Miguel was looking at life in prison until he pleaded guilty last year to second-degree murder for the 2012 fatal shooting of Hernandez in the 2000 block of West Myrtle Street. Continue reading
Valley High School was locked down briefly this morning while the SAPD pursued three suspects who fled from the police, according to the O.C. Register.

Should Santa Ana allow the Needle Exchange to operate again in the Civic Center?
Once again, people who do not live in Santa Ana are trying to tell our city what to do. After operating in the Civic Center for 2 years, the Orange County Needle Exchange Program (OCNEP) was denied a permit to continue giving out free needles in the Civic Center every Saturday. In January, the city decided that finding needles in our Civic Center, library, parks, and neighborhoods was a public safety issue, and could no longer allow the program to put resident’s and city worker’s safety at risk. DUI checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public. Are you wondering why so many police were swarming a Santa Ana neighborhood not far from Adams Elementary School this afternoon? It was because an unidentified white male suspect in his 30’s who ended up barricaded in a home in that neighborhood after a police pursuit that began in San Clemente, according to the O.C. Register.
Authorities said a chase started in the area of El Portal and North El Camino Real in San Clemente, San Clemente with the suspect who was pulled over by an O.C. Sheriff’s Deputy as he was riding a motorcycle that turned out to be stolen, according to KTLA News. Continue reading
Hector Maldonado Ibarra, a 30-year-old Santa Ana man, plead guilty on Monday to five theft cases involving stealing from stores – including the pistol whipping of one victim, according to the O.C. Register.

Garden Grove Police investigators shot and killed an unidentified 31-year-old man last night at a 7-Eleven parking lot in Santa Ana, at 1700 E. Dyer Road, according to the SAPD.

A hit and run driver who caused a fatal car accident on the 55 Freeway last Saturday afternoon, at about 2:25 p.m., is now being sought by the CHP, according to the O.C. Register.
The suspect was behind the wheel of a white sedan, headed south on the 55 Freeway, when he cut off a 2015 Mazda 6, causing that driver to swerve and crash into the side of a 2010 Toyota Sienna. The Toyota then careened into a 2017 Honda Pilot which went on to slam into a center divider. That Toyota also hit the center divider and proceeded to roll over several times. Continue reading
