Three people in a stolen car were arrested Friday night, Dec. 15, after a police pursuit that began in Santa Ana and ended near Corona, according to the O.C. Register.
SAPD police officers tried to pull over a stolen Nissan Sentra near the intersection of Broadway and Cubbon St. just before 9 p.m. on Friday night, but the suspects sped off staring a pursuit that proceeded north on the 5 Freeway and then East on the 91 Fwy. Continue reading

On Friday, December 15, 2017, at 10:42 PM, the Santa Ana Police Department received reports of shots fired and a traffic collision in the area of Bristol Street and McFadden Avenue. Officers responded to the area and located the scene of an apparent single vehicle traffic collision. SANTA ANA, Calif. – Senior Deputy District Attorney Shaddi Kamiabipour of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) was honored by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud (CAIF) as the 2017 Prosecutor of the Year for her extensive work prosecuting medical and workers’ compensation insurance fraud cases. The award was presented last night at CAIF’s annual meeting at theOmni Shoreham hotel in Washington, DC.
CAIF is a nonprofit alliance of insurers, consumer groups, and government agencies combating all forms of insurance fraud. Each year, CAIF recognizes prosecutors whose outstanding ability and professional dedication to fighting insurance fraud merit the respect and admiration of prosecutors statewide. Kamiabipour, of the OCDA’s Insurance Fraud Unit, has successfully prosecuted 55 defendants in massive insurance fraud cases, including the shutdown of a $40 million fraudulent medical billing and kickback operation where she filed charges against over 22 doctors, pharmacists, and business owners. SANTA ANA, Ca. (Dec. 12, 2017) – A man and a woman suspected of robbing a Lake Forest hotel at gunpoint and fleeing with an unknown amount of cash were arrested early Monday morning.

On Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at approximately 4:55 a.m., the Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) responded to the 3300 block of Nevada Avenue regarding a man looking into and tampering with vehicles.

The SAPD had their hands full on Friday night, Dec. 8, when they arrested Leoncio Gutierrez, a suspect thought to be on drugs who was driving on the wrong side of the road when he ran a red light and crashed into two cars – all while he was fleeing from the police, according to the O.C. Register.
The pursuit happened as the SAPD was responding to a commercial burglary on South Lyon St. A witness had reported seeing 80 suspects breaking into a building. Apparently there was a rave going on nearby. Continue reading

John Motesharrei, a 40-year-old Westminster man, pleaded guilty on his birthday Tuesday to a hit-and-run collision that killed Juan Ramirez Garcia, a 48-year-old Santa Ana man who was jogging in Fountain Valley, according to the O.C. Register.

Advisory: Detectives Investigating Homicide 300 Block East 17th Street
Victim: Pending Notification – Male (36)
On Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at 1:41 AM, the Santa Ana Police Department received reports of a shooting and a man down in the parking lot of the 7-11 convenience store at 302 East 17th Street. Officers arrived and found a 36 year-old male suffering a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Orange County Fire Authority personnel arrived, treated, and transported the victim to a local trauma center for treatment. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 2:12 AM. Continue reading
Felix Martinez Vargas, a 20-year-old Santa Ana man, is facing a murder charge that was filed on Tuesday, in which he is accused of shooting Mariano Labra Ramos, a 36-year-old Santa Ana man, to death outside of his apartment complex last week, according to the O.C. Register.
Prosecutors are also tacking on a sentence-enhancement charge against Vargas because he is an alleged gangbanger who caused great bodily harm while vicariously discharging a firearm. Continue reading

Joseph Margo, a 49-year-old man, pleaded guilty Thursday and was immediately sentenced to 50 years in prison for sexually assaulting two girls in Santa Ana, beginning when they were 8 years old and continuing until they were 13, according to the O.C. Register.
Margo was originally facing eight additional felony counts of sex crimes. However those charges were dismissed by the prosecutors when Margo accepted a plea deal. He ended up pleading guilty to rape, sodomy of a minor, forcible oral copulation of a minor and continuous sexual abuse of a child. Continue reading
