Did you feel that large 6.6 earthquake?

The Southern California area was hit by a 6.6 earthquake at 10:33 a.m., centered 7.1 mi SW of Searles Valley, California, which is a census-designated place in the Searles Valley of the Mojave Desert, in northwestern San Bernardino County, California, according to the USGS.

The earthquake appeared to last about thirty seconds to a minute. Here in Santa Ana it shook the house in what felt like a rolling motion. Did you feel it?

Shaking could be felt all the way into Mexico and the along the Southern California coast, according to The Patch.

Date: 9/17/15, Time: 5:45 A.M.

ORANGE COUNTY BEACHES TO REOPEN

COUNTY EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER AND HOTLINE TO DEACTIVATE

All beaches, harbors, piers, and marinas in the Cities of Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point and San Clemente, including County and State beaches will reopen as of 6:00 a.m.

Although no significant coastal flooding occurred there is a high likelihood of strong currents and waves dangerous to persons in or near the water. These strong currents may be hazardous to swimmers, boaters and coastal structures and may continue for several hours. Continue reading→

A Tsunami Advisory has been issued by the National Tsunami Warning Center for all of Orange County Coastal areas.

The first waves are expected to arrive in Orange County at approximately 4:45 a.m. Although no significant coastal flooding is expected, some areas could experience dangerous currents and tidal surges due to this tsunami along beaches and in harbors and marinas. Continue reading→

AdvisoryTake Part in National Preparedness Month – Register for AlertOC

September marks National Preparedness Month, urging residents and businesses to prepare for the many hazards that threaten our daily lives and sense of normalcy – most often occurring in Southern California with little to no warning.

AlertOC, the County’s mass notification system, is a critical link for residents to immediately learn of any required actions, such as evacuating their homes during an imminent fire. On September 24, more than two million Orange County residents will receive a call to test AlertOC. The drill will replicate a large scale, multi-jurisdictional emergency requiring thousands of numbers to be called simultaneously across Orange County’s entire region. This is the sixth annual regional test of the system and will include 24 participating cities as well as the County’s unincorporated areas. Continue reading→

Two more earthquakes strike today in Yorba Linda

Two more earthquakes struck today in Yorba Linda.  A 4.5 magnitude quake shook Orange County residents at 8:33 am today followed by a 3.4 magnitude temblor at 8:51 am, according to the USGS.

There were two quakes last night that we previously reported.

Did you feel that?  A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck this evening at 11:24 pm., and was centered in Yorba Linda, according to the USGS.  It was quickly followed by a 2.7 magnitude quake.

4.1 earthquake strikes in Yorba Linda, at 8:17 pm tonight

Did you feel that?  A 4.1 magnitude earthquake, centered in Yorba Linda, struck Orange County tonight, at 8:17 pm.  The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5.9 KM, according to the U.S. Geographical Society.  It was strong enough to be felt by residents of Santa Ana.
