Clerk-Recorder Offers Special Saturday Hours
Plan now to take advantage of special Saturday hours available at the Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Santa Ana, Fullerton and Laguna Hills. Appointments for civil marriage ceremonies and passports are recommended due to limited space.
The Old County Courthouse will be offering marriage licenses, civil wedding ceremonies and passport application services only. Copies of property records and birth, death and marriage certificates will be available at the Laguna Hills and Fullerton branch offices, as well as obtaining marriage licenses and civil wedding ceremonies. Please note that the department’s South County
branch office in Laguna Hills is now offering passport services. Free parking will be available at all three locations.

NEWS ADVISORY: OC Streetcar Project Celebrates Milestones
WHAT: Officials from the Orange County Transportation Authority, Santa Ana and Garden Grove will mark important milestones leading toward the construction of the OC Streetcar. Elected leaders and stakeholders will be recognized for their ongoing support of the project and updates will be provided.
The four-mile long streetcar is planned to run from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center through Downtown Santa Ana and the Civic Center, operating through important employment, restaurant and retail centers along Fourth Street and Santa Ana Boulevard. It will also travel to a new multimodal transit hub at Harbor Boulevard and Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. The project is planned to be operational by the end of 2019. Continue reading

The 16th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival opens Friday, May 1st with the carnival rides and continues thru Sunday, May 3rd on Fourth Street in our historic Downtown Santa Ana. This year’s Festival will feature “La Reyna del Pueblo” Graciela Beltran, Latin Grammy winner Conjunto Primavera, La Banda Movida, along with many other live performances on the main stage.

Celebrating the Art of Students in Santa Ana
April 27, 2015 – The Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation (SAPSF) in partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District is celebrating the success and creativity of the arts during the 3rd Annual Artspiration, an event benefiting the Santa Ana Unified School District Arts and Music Programs, to be held Thursday, April 30, 2015, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the beautiful Bowers Museum, located at 2002 N. Main Street, in Santa Ana.
“Artspiration offers an opportunity to showcase our great student artists and their art. Student art on display at the Bowers Museum allows our students, parents and teachers to celebrate the arts,” said Rob Richardson, President of SAPSF. Guests will have an opportunity to purchase exceptional prints of the award winning artwork by Santa Ana Unified School District’s budding, talented student artists. Guests will be entertained with musical selections by student groups and have an opportunity to meet some of the artists. The annual 2015 Santa Ana May Day march will take place on May 1, 2015, from 2 to 5 pm, at Sasscer Park, which is named after former SAPD police officer Nelson K. Sasscer, who was ambushed, shot and killed by a member of the Black Panthers way back in 1969.
Sasscer Park is located at Ross and 5th St., in Santa Ana.

The Pitch, Hit & Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to participate – free of charge – in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball/softball skills.
The competition will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Jerome Park between 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Boys and girls ages 7 – 14 can compete and will be divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14. All necessary equipment will be provided.

The City of Santa Ana announces the “Investing in the Artist,” an exciting grant opportunity that serves as a catalyst to enhance Santa Ana’s vibrant local art scene. Grants will be awarded to artists living or creating in Santa Ana and organizations with an arts and culture focus serving Santa Ana communities. Awards will be funded in $5,000 or $10,000 increments with approximately $85,000 available for distribution.

Prior to the murder, Magdi Girgis had a pending domestic violence case against him related to assaulting his wife, 55-year-old Ariet Girgis. A restraining order was issued, Ariet Girgis intended to divorce the defendant, and Magdi Girgis moved out of the couple’s Westminster home. Continue reading
