Tinkertoy exhibits opening at the Discovery Science Center on June 5

There’s no limit to what you can do when you use teamwork and creativity in TINKERTOY: Build Your Imagination, a new traveling exhibit based on the classic building toy adored by generations of children. 

TINKERTOY is opening at Santa Ana’s Discovery Science Center on Saturday, June 5.

The exhibit features TINKERTOY® in educational and fun activities inspired by GE’s successful “Imagination at Work” campaign – showing how innovation can positively influence everyday life and create solutions to real work challenges.

Take a Walk Through the Forties
‘Festival of Time’ brings history to life at the Great Park

IRVINE – Take a stroll through the 1940’s on a walkable historical timeline at the former MCAS El Toro and experience a pivotal era in world history. Outdoor displays of period autos and airplanes along with indoor performances, lectures and film screenings will invite visitors to discover the history of the land that is now the Orange County Great Park.

“Festival of Time: An Evening of History” is a multimedia event designed by the Great Park History Committee to explore how World War II changed American life. This carefully crafted evening of history takes place on Saturday, June 19th at 6:30 p.m. at the Great Park. Festival highlights including interpretive tours of the walkable timeline and a special screening of excerpts from the 1946 Academy award winning film The Best Years of our Lives designed to provide audiences with an informative and entertaining “living history” lesson. We Want a Dignified Community for All– It is still time for the City to think over their response and reconsider a Community Benefits Agreement

The community has united and organized under a coalition called SACReD, Santa Ana Collaborative for Responsible Development, and asks the City to sign a Community Benefits Agreement which will give the community the security and guarantee that the development projects of the Station District and Transit Zoning Code will in fact benefit the community.

It is a real shame that the folks who produce the Memorial Day events at Santa Ana Cemetery and at Fairhave Memorial Park can’t work together and hold their events at different times.  Instead, the Santa Ana Cemetery Memorial Day event began today at 10 a.m. and the Fairhaven event began a half hour later, at 10:30 a.m.

A larger crowd showed up at Fairhaven whereas Santa Ana Cemetery was awash in Republican politicans and even a descendant of the Confederates.

State Senator Lou Correa was also at the Fairhaven event, but he was the only Democratic elected official.  The Republican politicians included Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Supervisor Bill Campbell, Congressman Ed Royce, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, and Tustin Mayor Pro Tem John Nielsen.  Continue reading→

Villa Fundamental’s Education First Festival

The 2010 Education 1st Festival will be held at Villa Fundamental on Saturday, May 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Over 90 organizations will unite to bring services and entertainment to families in Santa Ana.

Sports celebrity appearances by Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez along with Anaheim Angels player Jay Johnstone and Chivas USA.

Visual arts performances will highlight Latin Grammy performers from the Pacifico Dance Company. The live band stage, hosted by The Beat 92.3, will feature The Latin Blues Project, Mahootie, Wonder Wheel, Los Del Centro, The Alter Billies, and The Faculty.
