Jumpstart at UCI Annual Spring Literacy Event to Bring Books to Life to Encourage Early Childhood Reading Habits
WHAT: More than 450 families from across Orange County are expected to attend Jumpstart’s free annual Spring Literacy event on Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m. at the Heritage Museum in Santa Ana. The exciting event brings books to life with story-themed booths such as the Giving Tree, readings from children’s authors, activities such as a Cat in the Hat sack race, science experiments and more to encourage an interest in reading among preschool age children. Jumpstart will give more than 1,000 free books to children who attend the event. Nurses from Santa Ana Unified School District will be present as well to provide free basic health screenings for children. Continue reading

The Bowers Museum invites you to a Free Celtic Family Festival on Sunday, March 1 from 11am to 4pm. The event will also feature a special presentation by the Butler-Fearon-O’Connor School of Irish Dance, which has been named the number one Irish dance school in the United States. The Free Celtic Family Festival includes free admission to both the Bowers Museum and the Bowers Kidseum, and the first 1,500 attendees will receive free admission to the specially-ticketed China’s Lost Civilization: The Mystery of Sanxingdui exhibit. The Annual Orange County Tet Parade for 2015 is set for Sat., Feb. 21, from 9 am to 12 p.m. (pre-parade starts at 8 am) on Bolsa Ave., main stage at Magnolia St.
The Little Saigon Tet Parade is Organized by the Vietnamese American Federation of Southern California. The purpose is to Celebrate the Lunar New Year and to preserve and Promote Vietnamese culture to the younger generations and to the greater community.
The Parade Festival is supported by the National Vietnam Southern California organized with support from many organizations and international children in the community. Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen is making it easier for couples to get married this Valentine’s Day. The Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana and the department’s branch offices in Fullerton and Laguna Hills will be open to the public from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2015.
Appointments are filling up fast for couples wishing to be married on Valentine’s Day at the Clerk Recorder’s offices. Couples are encouraged to make an appointment for a civil wedding ceremony due to the popularity of this day. Bowers Museum to “Go Red” with the American Heart Association for the 13th Annual National Go Red Day on Friday, February 6th
SANTA ANA, CALIF. – The Bowers Museum in Santa Ana will be among the numerous locations nationwide to “Go Red” on Friday, February 6, as part of the 13th Annual American Heart Association Go Red Day promoting women’s heart health. Starting on February 6, the Bowers Museum’s iconic Mission-style Bell Tower will be bathed in brilliant red light to help raise awareness about the importance of heart health among women. Located at 2002 N. Main St. in Santa Ana, the Bowers Museum is a familiar sight for thousands of daily commuters driving along Main Street.
The annual Go Red For Women campaign raises awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, and encourages them to take preventive measures to reduce their risk. The movement harnesses the energy, passion and power women and those who love them, to band together and collectively wipe out heart disease. Annual Measure M Public Hearing Set for Feb. 10 for Taxpayer Oversight Committee
Half-cent sales tax is driving force behind local transportation improvements
ORANGE – The Measure M Taxpayer Oversight Committee is conducting its 24th annual public hearing on Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Measure M, administered by the Orange County Transportation Authority, was approved by voters in 1990 and renewed by a vote of nearly 70 percent in 2006. Each year, the committee seeks public input on how funds are being spent. Continue reading

Orange County Ballistics Using Local Law Enforcement 3D Technology Press Conference
WHAT: The Orange County Crime Lab (OCCL) will introduce the Orange County Ballistics Using Local Law Enforcement 3D Technology (OCBULL3T) and announce the first 3D database cold-hit on bullets in California. The bullet database cold-hits recently connected two separate Anaheim Police Department cases involving firearms.
Though this was the first database cold-hit, the OCBULL3T system has provided several other bullet and cartridge hits in cases being investigated by numerous other agencies in Orange County. In addition to information about
the Anaheim Police Department cases, crime lab experts will discuss the OCBULL3T technology, its capabilities and the resources it provides to law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County. Continue reading
