Kidseum Celebrates 20 Years with a Grand Reopening on December 7, 2014

Santa Ana, Calif. — The Bowers Museum is proud to announce that it will celebrate Kidseum’s 20th anniversary with a whole new look and programming for the 21st century. Kidseum will be high-tech and interactive with a focus on it’s new mission, “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art and archeology.

A few of the many new areas to explore include the “Green Screen Time Machine,” where children and their families can travel to the world’s most historic sites on a Wells Fargo Stagecoach. Visitors to Kidseum will be able to experience the famous 45,000 year old Caves of Lascaux, France in a unique Glow Cave with special glow-in-the-dark projects. Continue reading→

Newsong and Illumination Christmas Event

The Illumination Foundation is holding a Holiday Carnival for the families in Santa Ana on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, from 9 am to 4 pm, at 1215 N. Ross St. in Santa Ana.  Santa Ana’s Newsong/10Ten Church will be feeding the families with a potluck!  Sign ups are on Doodle.

The Illumnination Foundation is looking for energetic individuals and volunteer groups to help run the kids’ crafts/activities during this festive event. Newsong Church is moving their Irvine services to 10Ten in Santa Ana

10Ten Church

Newsong Church is consolidating their Sunday services and some of our ministry activities to their Santa Ana campus.  This is big news as they have been around for twenty years – in Irvine.  That campus will now be used for training and events.

Newsong acquired what used to be Santa Ana’s historic First Baptist Church last year and renamed it 10Ten, a play on words as they are located at 1010 17th St., in Santa Ana.  The church is now full – while it was literally dying when it was First Baptist.  This merger of the two Newsong churches will be a real boon to restaurants in Santa Ana as the congregation is bound to have lunch in the area after church services.

The first combined services at Santa Ana are set for this Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 9:00 and 11:00 AM. This will be part of their preview phase in Santa Ana. They say that a Grand Opening will be coming soon.  There will be a prayer breakfast and preview tour of the facility on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 8 am. Continue reading→

Blaze Pizza is now open in Santa Ana, at the MainPlace Mall.  And today they are offering free pizza, all day long, as part of their grand opening festivities.

Blaze Pizza uses an assembly-line format that lets guests customize a signature pizza or create one of their own, choosing from a wide selection of fresh, artisanal toppings, most at no extra charge. Each 11-inch pizza is then “fast-fire’d” in a blazing-hot, open-hearth oven, and is ready in less than two minutes. Blaze Pizza offers gluten-free dough and vegan cheese to accommodate pizza fans with specific dietary needs as well. The restaurant’s menu also features signature salads, lemonades, beer & wine, and house-made S’more Pies for dessert.

Demonstration in support of 43 missing Mexican students set for Dec. 3 in Santa Ana

Santa Ana Protest 12.3 National Day of Action

The Colectivo Tonantzin is hosting a demonstration in Santa Ana on December 3, 2014, to send a message that Santa Ana is in solidarity with the people of Mexico who are still trying to figure out what happened to 43 missing college students.  The event organizers want to send “two powerful messages to Mexico: To the people of Mexico, you are not alone. To the Mexican government, the world is watching you.”

The event organizers reported on Facebook that “On December 3rd, 2014, we will go out into the streets and demand the US government to abide by the Leahy Law and to stop military assistance to the Mexican government, which flagrantly violates human rights with total impunity!”

Santa Ana 2014 Patchwork Show Map

The Patchwork Show will be taking place once more in Santa Ana this Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, from 11 am to 5 pm, in Downtown Santa Ana.  Over the years, Patchwork has grown from a small parking lot craft fair into multiple locations including street festivals and large indoor marketplaces.  All Patchwork Show events are FREE to the public.

The Patchwork Show features 160+ local vendors selling diverse handmade goods (see our gallery for a closer look), curated food trucks, DIY stations to get your craft on,food artisan area, live music and rotating services like photo booths, bike valet and gift-wrapping depending on the location and season.

Vendors are selected through a jury process and feature clothing for men, women & kids, handbags, accessories, jewelry, art, ceramics, garden finds, home goods, plushies, crochet & knit items, pet gear, kits & patterns, bath & body goodies and more!

SENATOR LOU CORREA HOSTS 14TH ANNUAL DAY AT THE SANTA ANA ZOO EVENT

SANTA ANA – On Sunday, November 23, 2014, Senator Lou Correa will host his 14th Annual Holiday Canned Food and Toy Drive at Prentice Park located in the Santa Ana Zoo. The City of Santa Ana Parks, Recreation & Community Services Agency is co-sponsoring the “Showmobile” that will be used for the live entertainment.

During the 14th Annual Holiday Canned Food and Toy Drive attendees will enjoy free health screenings including flu shots, lunch provided by the Orange County Employees Association, and opportunity drawings including: a television and tickets to Disneyland, Aquarium of the Pacific, and Knott’s Berry Farm. Families are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or canned food that will be donated to Toys for Tots and the Orange County Food Bank.

UCLA basketball legend Bill Walton, a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the San Diego Hall of Champions and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, will be appearing at the Claim Jumper located at 2250 E. 17th St., in Santa Ana, on Monday, November 24, 2014, at 5:25 pm, for a Football Viewing Party featuring the Baltimore Ravens versus the New Orleans Saints.

Public Safety Agencies Showcase Communications Equipment & Mobile Command Vehicles

WHAT: The California Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee will be hosting an exercise in Orange County, with Los Angeles, Riverside/San Bernardino, and San Diego counties also participating. The purpose of this exercise, called the Multi Agency Regional Radio Interoperability Training Exercise, is to test the interoperable capability of radio communications equipment inside mobile command post vehicles.
