Community Alert: UPCOMING EVENTS: RIBBON CUTTING AT CITY’S 4TH EXERCISE PARK, HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING IN DOWNTOWN & INTERNATIONAL SOCCER

SANTA ANA, CA. – The City of Santa Ana is excited to announce the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Memorial Exercise Park on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 4pm. Memorial Exercise Park, located at 2102 S. Flower Street, will be the City’s fourth exercise park and join locations at Birch Park, Garfield Park and the Maple/Occidental Exercise Area as part of the City’s ongoing efforts to encourage health and wellness in the community.

The new exercise area is constructed under a colorful canvas shade structure adjacent to the Memorial Community Center. Visitors will enjoy nine new exercise stations including a leg press, chest press, sit-up bench, cross country ski, upper body and more. Protest against the killing of 43 Mexican students set for 11/20 in Santa Ana

A group of local students led by Emmanuel Gonzalez, a Beckman High School student, has organized a protest in Santa Ana against the murder of 43 students who went missing Sept. 26 after a confrontation with police in Iguala, 80 miles southwest of Mexico City.

There are allegations that the Mayor of Iguala and his wife conspired with the police and drug gangs to kill the 43 students who had come to town to collect money and had commandeered buses. Continue reading→

Knott’s Berry Farm is offering free admission to active and retired members of the U.S. Military from November 2, 2014 through January 4, 2015. Up to six additional tickets may be purchased at Knott’s Ticket Booths for only $24 each from November 2 -21 and for $29 each November 22 through January 4, 2015. Military personnel may also purchase additional tickets at a participating local Military ticket office. U.S. veterans, retired and active military personnel must present military ID or proof of U.S. military service at Knott’s ticket booths to receive the complimentary tribute tickets. Community: CITY OF SANTA ANA TO HOST OC BLUES SOCCER CLUB AND EL SALVADOR’S CD MARTE IN THE CITY’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL MATCH

SANTA ANA, CA (November 6, 2014) – The City of Santa Ana is hosting the Orange County Blues FC soccer team in an international friendly match against El Salvador Primera Division side Club Deportivo Atlético Marte on Sunday, November 16th at 4pm at Santa Ana Stadium. This will be the first International match for the recently rebranded OC Blues FC and their first ever game at Santa Ana Stadium.

“This is a great opportunity for the City of Santa Ana. This is a chance to see world class soccer players right here at our home stadium. We hope visitors who come out to enjoy the international match will take the opportunity visit our downtown and that this will be the first of many games,” said Mayor Miguel Pulido. Orange County History Coming Alive With 10,000 Third-Graders at Angel Stadium on Nov. 13

Anaheim, CA – More than 10,000 third-graders from more than 100 schools from all corners of Orange County will descend upon Angel Stadium the morning of Thursday, Nov. 13 for the annual “Gift of History” celebration.

Day of the Dead (Spanish: Día de Muertos) is a Mexican holiday observed throughout Mexico and around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, according to Wikipedia.

Ceremony to honor fallen law enforcement officers and their families set for 10/28

Donate Life California, which encourages people to register as organ donors, and the California Peace Officers’ Memorial Foundation will hold a special Donate Life Rose Dedication Ceremony on Tuesday, October 28 at 10 a.m. honoring fallen law enforcement officers and their families. A beautiful rose in honor of the officers will be included in the Dedication Garden on the Donate Life Float in the 2015 Rose Parade, held in Pasadena on New Year’s Day. The officers’ families are invited to personalize the tribute.

Tuesday’s ceremony will be held at the Orange County Sheriff’s Training Academy, located at 15991 Armstrong Avenue, in Tustin, from 10 to 11 am.

The founding of Santa Ana to be celebrated on Oct. 25

Members of the Tongva and Juaneño/Luiseño nations long inhabited the area we now know as Santa Ana. In 1810, year of the commencement of the war of Mexican Independence (1810–1821), Jose Antonio Yorba, a sergeant of the Spanish army, was granted land that he called Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. Yorba’s rancho included the lands where the cities of Olive, Orange, Irvine, Yorba Linda, Villa Park, Santa Ana, Tustin, Costa Mesa and unincorporated El Modena, and Santa Ana Heights, are today. This rancho was the only land grant in Orange County granted under Spanish Rule.

After the Mexican-American war ended in 1848, Alta California became part of the United States and American settlers arrived in this area. Claimed in 1869 by Kentuckian William H. Spurgeon on land obtained from the descendents of Jose Antonio Yorba, Santa Ana was incorporated as a city in 1886 with a population of 2000 and in 1889 became the seat of the newly formed Orange County.
