Care Packages Rally Set for October 26

Supervisor Shawn Nelson will help collect and donate care package items going to Kabul, Afghanistan at his “Cigars for Heroes” collection rally on October 26. Veterans, military family members and citizen-patriots are welcome to stop by and drop donations, take pictures and savor a cigar while collecting items that will be sent to active-duty military in November.
Continuing his legacy of supporting active duty military stationed overseas with a taste of freedom from appreciative family, friends and Veterans in OC, Supervisor Shawn Nelson announced today that he will host the 4 hour rally at Vintage Cigars, located at 3734 S. Bristol, Santa Ana (South Bristol at Callen Common behind the Bank of America), from 1:00-5:00pm, Sunday, October 26. Continue reading
City of Santa Ana
The City of Santa Ana welcomes your input about how to spend the federal housing and community development funds it will receive during the next five years (2015-2019). The City is developing a five-year Consolidated Plan, which will describe how these federal funds will be spent. The Community Development Agency is hosting one Focus Group and two Community Meetings during the month of October to obtain citizen input about the community’s housing needs and social services. This funding must benefit low and moderate income persons. Your participation and input is appreciated.

Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides is once again holding a fundraiser outside of his Ward, in Downtown Santa Ana, at Ketri Cafe, on Oct. 16, 2014, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Benavides bills Ketri Cafe as “A Local Hidden Gem,” but I guess he hasn’t looked at their record of health violations.

A Patient Town Hall Meeting on the State of Medical Marijuana in Santa Ana has been set for Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, from 6 to 7 pm at the headquarters of the Yes on Measure CC ballot initiative campaign.
The discussion will include information about the recent raids on medical marijuana dispensaries by the Santa Ana Police Department, court cases and the upcoming election.

Community Alert: PUBLIC INVITED TO GRAFFITI PAINT OUT AND BEAUTIFICATION DAY ON SATURDAY, OCT. 18
Join the City of Santa Ana, Public Works Agency for their Community Graffiti Paint-out and Beautification Day. This is a combined effort by City-contracted graffiti removal crews and volunteers from the community. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 18, 2014 from 9am to noon. Water and a healthy snack will be provided along with T-Shirts for the first 50 volunteers to pre-register. We’ll provide the tools, gloves, paint and training. All you need to do is join us to help beautify our community.
