Celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Orange County

CELEBRATE THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY OF ORANGE COUNTY OCTOBER 4 AT IRVINE REGIONAL PARK

The Orange County Historical Commission and OC Parks invite you to visit Orange County’s past at the 125th Anniversary Celebration of Orange County on Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Irvine Regional Park, located at 1 Irvine Park Rd., in Orange.

The anniversary celebration will present historic highlights and demonstrations by special guests and Park Rangers in the newly restored Soda Fountain Pavilion located in Group Area 2 of the park. Continue reading→

Taft Elementary / Taft Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Santa Ana, CA Celebrates the Unveiling of a Newly Renovated Library from Target and The Heart of America Foundation

Makeover includes 2,000 new books and technology upgrades

What: Target (NYSE:TGT) and The Heart of America Foundation will unveil a newly renovated library at Taft Elementary/Taft Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Several hundred volunteer hours were invested in the redesign and construction of the library space, which features 2,000 new books, furniture, carpet and shelves, and a complete technology upgrade, including new iPads interactive white boards and more. By reimagining school libraries and transforming outdated spaces into state-of-the-art learning centers, Target continues to foster a love of reading in students across the country.

This year, Taft Elementary/Taft Deaf and Hard of Hearing is one of 25 elementary schools across the country to receive a new library as part of the Target School Library Makeover program, which will culminate with the celebration of the 200th School Library Makeover on November 14, a major program milestone. Community Alert: CITY OF SANTA ANA TO HOST THE COUNTY’S FIRST FREE CICLOVIA, SOMOS, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5 FROM 9AM TO 4PM

SANTA ANA, CA (September 25, 2014) – The City of Santa Ana is proud to host Orange County’s first ever Ciclovia – an open streets event where the streets will be closed to cars and opened to bikers, walkers and runners. SOMOS or “Sunday On Main Open Streets” is scheduled for Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 9 am to 4 pm.

The 3 mile route in Santa Ana includes Orange County’s hottest downtown, as named in Orange Coast magazine, the Historic Old City Hall just south of Third Street and the Historic South Main Business District. This route connects Historic south Main Street with the City’s vibrant downtown. The event is free and participants are encouraged to come out and run, bike or walk the route. Entertainment and activities such as 15 minute sessions of zumba, a karaoke stage and various children activities will also be featured throughout the route. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido is hosting a campaign breakfast reception that will include a “State of the City” update on September 30, 2014, from 7:30 am to 9:30 am at the Bowers Museum, in the John Lee Court, at 2002 N. Main St., in Santa Ana.

SANTA ANA, CA – Imagine downtown Santa Ana as a bicycle and pedestrian-friendly environment that encourages visitors and residents to park their cars and enjoy the city up close! That is the goal for Santa Ana city planners and a team of consultants who are embarking on development of the Downtown/Transit Zone Complete Streets Plan.

Complete Streets provide opportunities for increased physical activity by incorporating features that promote regular walking, bicycling and transit use into just about every street. A benefit that results from this approach would include improvements that make it easier and safer to travel between the Transportation Center and Downtown Santa Ana on foot, by bicycle or public transit. WHAT:           Officials from the Orange County Transportation Authority will be cutting the ribbon to commemorate the completion of a 2-mile segment of the OC Loop along the Coyote Creek biking and walking trail. This segment completion is part of an ongoing effort to create 66 miles of seamless bikeway and pedestrian connections across Orange County. Today, about 70 percent of the OC Loop is already in place and being used daily by thousands of bikers, walkers and runners.

Fiestas Patrias Parade

The Santa Ana Fiestas Patrias Parade is set for today, Sunday, Sep. 14, 2014, at 4 pm.  It is being televised by the Santa Ana Unified School District’s TV channel 31, which is available on Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse.

Why would the parade be televised?  Simple.  Elected officials are allowed to ride in this parade.  Their political opponents are not.  The SAUSD is televising the parade in order to promote SAUSD Trustee John Palacio, who is running for reelection.  I will be surprised if his fellow SAUSD candidate and ally, Valery Amezcua, is not in the car with him. OCCTA Silent Auction

The Orange County Children’s Therapeutic ARTS Center will hold a fundraising event in support of their new Community Food Bank on Thursday, Sept. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This event includes live art demonstrations, entertainment, raffles, refreshments, and a wide variety of auction items. Many important members of the local community are also expected to attend.

The ARTS center helps young people, especially those of limited financial means or in foster situations, by offering a program that combines academics, the arts, and creative therapies.
