Join DeColores Queer Orange County for our 5th Annual Community Conference! The theme for this year’s conference is “Redefining Mi Familia: Re-membering our histories, bodies, and communities.”

As a community we aim to redefine “famiia” and what that looks like for Queer and Trans Folks of Color. We are re-membering parts of us that have been fragmented (i.e. our histories, bodies, and communities) in order to be whole again and no longer compromise who we are.

Community: SANTA ANA PUBLIC LIBRARY CONTINUES SEPTEMBER PROGRAMMING WITH FREE SCREENING OF “WHEN CAN I COME HOME”

SANTA ANA, CA – As part of the Cal Humanities War Comes Home: Finding Peace at the Home Front series, the Santa Ana Public Library will have the following free events during the month of September introducing challenges faced by veterans and the realities of war.

  • Saturday, September 13, 2014, the library will be screening When I Came Home, winner of the NY Loves Film Best Documentary Award at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. When I Came Home follows Herold Noel, an Iraq war veteran who becomes homeless in New York City after returning from combat with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). After the screening there will be presentations by representatives from the Volunteers of America and US Department of Veterans Affairs. The screening will be held from 1:30 pm – 5 pm in the Santa Ana Public Library Meeting Room A. Light refreshments will be served. Continue reading→

5th OC Film Fiesta Kicks Off Thurs., Sept. 18 at Bowers Museum

Fest Opens With Volando Bajo, Homage to Mexican Musica Romantica of the ‘80s

(Santa Ana) The 5th Annual OC Film Fiesta opens Thurs., Sept. 18 at 7 pm at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana with a free screening of Volando Bajo, acclaimed Mexican director Beto Gomez’s hilarious homage to musica romantica of the 1980s. The Bowers Museum is located at 2002 Main St. in Santa Ana. The OC Film Fiesta, which features three weekends of films, documentaries and workshops, runs through Sunday, Oct. 5.

Presented by the City of Santa Ana PRCSA and produced by Pocharte, the OC Film Fiesta is a free cinematic celebration of Orange County’s diversity and multicultural heritage. The OC Film Fiesta continues on Friday, Sept. 19 at the Bowers with a special 1:30 pm screening of Fernando de Fuentes’ 1936 classic Vamonos con Pancho Villa with a discussion about the film’s legendary composer, Silvestre Revueltas. The Konsept Arts and Music Festival is coming to Downtown Santa Ana (DTSA) on Sep. 6 – 7, 2014, from 2 pm to 2 am.  Here are details from the event promoter:

Art, Music, Fashion, Photography, Culture all colliding for another day in the Historic Downtown Santa Ana, The last few years we’ve been putting together shows in this wonderful city to help push the arts. This year Konsept decided to do it even bigger, thanks to our sponsors we were able to put together 12 hours and 6 stages worth of music for you guys.

The team decided to do something different to give back to our community, so we teamed up with Locally Grown Collective to help a non profit by the name of Waste Not OC, an organization that works with low income families and homeless people start a new culinary program for troubled teens on probation.
