PIzza Rev Grand Opening in Santa Ana

Looks like Santa Ana’s going to be the next city in Orange County to get a fancy build-your-own pizza joint. PizzaRev, a Blaze Pizza/Pieology-style pizzeria will be opening the doors of its corner store on Bristol Street and MacArthur next Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, according to the OC Weekly.

PizzaRev is a “build-your-own” fast-casual pizza concept that has reinvented the way America eats its favorite food. Guests are empowered to fully customize a personal-sized 11” pizza for under $8. Homemade dough options, flavorful sauces, delicious cheeses, and over 30+ fresh toppings, everything is on display at PizzaRev and assembled right before your eyes. The pizzas are then fired in a four-ton, 900 degree, stone-hearth oven producing a thin and crispy “Roman-style” pizza in just three minutes, according to their Facebook page. Continue reading→

Community Alert: SANTA ANA PUBLIC LIBRARY BEGINS SERIES OF PROGRAMS WAR COMES HOME: FINDING PEACE AT THE HOME FRONT

SANTA ANA, CA – The Santa Ana Public Library will begin a series of free programs under the War Comes Home: Finding Peace at the Home Front CA Reads funded project. The first program is a discussion of the book Blue Cascade and viewing of the film Severe Clear.

First Lt. Mike Scotti, a Marine who participated in both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) wrote The Blue Cascade. This is a well-written, hard-hitting memoir of a veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq during the early years of 2000. The language and emotions are raw, but real, as the author shared how living through the war, seeing and experiencing what he did affected him and his fellow marines. Continue reading→

Victims of SAPD attack on marijuana colectives to speak out at the City Council meeting tonight

Protest against arrest of medical marijuana collective staff

OC NORML is asking their supporters to attend tonight’s Santa Ana City Council meeting so that they may speak out against the “outrageous treatment that the medicinal marijuana collective operators, volunteers and patients endured during the most recent series of raids.”

Over 75 people associated with local medicinal marijuana collectives were arrested by the SAPD on July 31, as we previously reported.

Those arrested were locked up in a paddy wagon for hours and were not allowed to use the restroom, get anything to drink, and one patient was even denied the right to take his heart medication.  All of them were eventually booked and released with a code enforcement ticket for $500 each. “A Tribute to Santa Ana” by Urban Realist Painter, Matthew Southgate will open THIS SATURDAY 8/2 during DTSA’s ArtWalk. Celebrate historic scenes & local movie legends from the “Golden City” such as Chaplin, Brando, Bebe Daniels and more!

Southgate was taught painting by the legendary Emigdio Vasquez and also studied art at Santa Ana College. He’s been active in the Santa Ana arts scene for over 20 years, exhibiting at the Caged Chameleon Gallery in the 80’s, which DIEGO’S chef Richard Espinachio used to run, as well as in the Bowers Museum, OCCCA, and his infamous Studio del Sotano gallery in the historic Santora basement. A skilled muralist, portrait painter and sign-maker, Matt has also been active in local politics, advocating for Artists with the Artists Village Association of Santa Ana (AVASA) and United Artists of Santa Ana (UASA). His guiding vision has been to preserve the historic Santora Arts Building, Artists Village and DTSA as cultural hubs by providing Artists and Arts Businesses with the support needed so they can continue showcasing Santa Ana’s unique history. O.C. Agencies Unite to Combat Human Trafficking

WHAT: Orange County law enforcement, transportation officials and the Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force will hold a joint news conference to discuss the growing problem of human trafficking and efforts to put an end to the crime through strict enforcement and community partnerships.

The Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force, which was founded and is currently administrated by nonprofit organization Community Service Programs, will release its 2014 Human Trafficking Victim Report. A key finding is that the number of perpetrators of human trafficking crimes in Orange County doubled between 2011 and 2013. On average, eight new human trafficking victims are identified each month in Orange County and nearly half of all victims are minors. Continue reading→

The Discovery Science Center is now the Discovery Cube Orange County

Discovery Science Center of Santa Ana

The Discovery Science Center is changing its name to Discovery Cube Orange County and creating a new foundation to oversee museums in both Santa Ana and Los Angeles, according to the O.C. Register.

The Discovery Science Foundation, which is in the process of establishing nonprofit status is also opening a new site in Los Angeles, called Discovery Cube Los Angeles, which will include a two-story, 71,000-square-foot museum in Sylmar, in the San Fernando Valley’s Hansen Dam Recreation Center.  That site should be open by Nov. 13.

The Santa Ana site is currently undergoing a $22.5 million expansion as well. Continue reading→

This event is part of Fairhaven’s free annual summer entertainment series which features two special screenings of classic, family-friendly films and a concert in the park.
