Playground design day at Willard Park set for July 31
KaBoom! and The Illumination Foundation are co-hosting an event from 4-8 pm at Willard Park this Thursday, July 31, 2014. Willard Park community (parents and kids alike) are invited to drop by and give their input on a new park they are planning.

Fundraiser for SAUSD School Board candidate Aguinaga set for August 15
Cecilia Aguinaga is hosting a fundraiser and silent auction to benefit her campaign for the SAUSD School Board on August 15, 2014, at Las Palomas Restaurant, located at 400 South Euclid St., in Anaheim, from 6 pm to 8 pm.
Cecilia was born in Jalisco, México and immigrated to the United States in 1978. She has lived more than 35 years in Santa Ana. Cecilia and her husband Armando have two sons (Ramsey and Allan) and a daughter (Sylvia). Ramsey was a police officer for the Santa Ana and Los Angeles Police Department, Allan graduated from the Culinary School of the Arts, and Sylvia graduated from University of California, Berkeley, is teaching for the Los Angeles Unified School District and is currently working towards her masters degree. OC Waste & Recycling, in partnership with Discovery Science Center, Goodwill of Orange County, and Angels Baseball will provide free disposal of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Bring your favorite Angels memorabilia for an autograph with Angels starting pitcher Garrett Richards. The first 200 cars to bring household hazardous waste, e-waste or gently used clothing will have priority access to meet Garrett Richards as well as the opportunity to choose between four free tickets to that night’s Angels game or four free general admission tickets to the Discovery Science Center (while supplies last). Bowers Museum’s Fiesta Latina Celebrates Art, Culture, Community on July 27
Admission Free to First 1,500 Visitors and to All Santa Ana Residents
Santa Ana, Calif. — The Bowers Museum announces a new community program, Fiesta Latina, as part of the New California Treasures project supported by the James Irvine Foundation.
For one day only, Sunday, July 27, 2014, the Bowers will offer free admission to the first 1,500 visitors, plus free admission to all Santa Ana residents, to see its wonderful exhibitions and take advantage of this fun-filled day. The Fiesta Latina takes place from 11am-3:30pm at the Bowers Museum.
Visitors will enjoy the Latin music of boleros, rancheras, tangos and more with DJ Soto. Guests can learn how to dance salsa and compete in a dance competition to the live music of Cantamerica, an award-winning guitar ensemble, as they perform in the John M. Lee Court from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. A demonstration/performance of Brazilian martial arts will take place by Capoeira Brasil Tustin at 1:30 pm. Continue reading

Climb to stop ovarian cancer at Sender One in Santa Ana on 9/12-13
A one-of-a-kind ovarian cancer fundraising event is coming to the Orange Coast, specifically to Chris Sharma’s Sender One Climbing, located at 1441 S Village Way, in Santa Ana. On Sept. 12 and 13, ovarian cancer survivors, their families and friends, and rock climbers of all ages (wee ones to seniors), abilities and skill levels will join together at the first annual Climb4Life California to climb and raise funds for ovarian cancer research and awareness initiatives.
This is the signature fundraising event for the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, a national ovarian cancer nonprofit, which holds the Climb4Life in Colo., Boston, D.C., New York and now, Calif. The Santa Ana fundraising goal is $30,000. Continue reading

Santa Ana Winds to face off against the Tustin Legends in the UPSL final today
