SANTA ANA, CA (January 16, 2014) – The Santa Ana Mayor and City Council are embarking on the creation of a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan to guide our city towards the future. This plan has involved numerous community stakeholders and the City invites all to attend an informational meeting to see the 5-year strategic plan draft and to provide comment, before it is presented to the City Council. Community Alert: City and SAUSD Celebrate Madison Park Joint-Use Community Garden with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

SANTA ANA, CA (January 15, 2014) – The new joint-use community garden and basketball court renovation project has been completed and will be commemorated with a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, January 21 at the new garden in Madison Park at 11:30 a.m. Madison students, neighborhood families, teachers, Santa Ana Unified School District leaders and City leaders will come together and celebrate the opening of this unique partnership. This is the first joint-use garden in the city, creating a unique venture that will provide fresh produce for the community and an experiential site for the school’s science and health curriculum. Clerk-Recorder Extends Hours for Valentine’s Day Marriages

The Orange County Clerk-Recorder will be offering extended hours and is now accepting reservations for couples who wish to be married on Valentine’s Day at the department’s three marriage offices.

Ceremony rooms and marriage services will be available at the Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Ceremony rooms and marriage services will be available at the department’s branch offices in Laguna Hills and Fullerton from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Everest College-Santa Ana will partner with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on Monday, Jan. 27th. The blood drive will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the campus of Everest College (500 West Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa Ana). A bicycle helmet giveaway (limited supply)

Come and meet Santa Ana High School Graduate Vinicio Murillo (Class of 2006), author of the children’s book Roderick Roach, 1/11/14 at his book signing at Libreria Martinez de Chapman University located at 216 N. Murillo was born in Santa Ana and is a student at California State University, Fullerton. He’ll be introducing and signing his first published book, Roderick Roach, the first in a planned trilogy. The book introduces Rod, an 11-year-old student at the Wentworth Academy for Children with Special Abilities. Rod has the power of invisibility, but he’s overshadowed by his world-famous best friend, Ezra, who can manipulate blue fire. WHAT: January 15th marks the deadline to sign up for health care coverage effective February 1, 2014 under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Navigating through the new health insurance plans under the ACA can be overwhelming for many, especially for those who may be purchasing health insurance for the first time. On Saturday, Jan. 11, 2013 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., not-for-profit AltaMed Health Services, the largest network of Federally Qualified Community Health Centers in southern California, will provide the public with free enrollment assistance at its Health Insurance Resource Center in Santa Ana. Visit the Back to Natives Nursery at Santiago Park in Santa Ana on Saturday, January 11, 2014, from 9 am to 12 noon, and purchase native plants for your garden. Scroll down to see a partial list of species for sale. It is still an ideal time to plant natives – they will have an opportunity to become established during the winter and spring! Sustaining members receive a 10% off of their purchase of plants. Back to Natives is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit corporation. Plant sales benefit BTN’s environmental education and habitat restoration programs.
