Santa Ana Unified School District and Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation Host a Welcome Breakfast for New SAUSD Superintendent Dr. Rick Miller

THE EVENT: Santa Ana Unified School District Board of Education together with Santa Ana Public Schools Foundation are holding a Welcome Breakfast for New District Superintendent Dr. Rick Miller. The event will take place on Thursday, November 21, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. at Godinez Fundamental High School.

Proceeds from this event are to benefit the SAPSF Scholarship fund, music and art programs, and the Educator Make a Difference Grant programs. Please post on your community calendar and consider providing coverage for this community event that will bring state, county, and city elected officials and business and community leaders of Orange County together to support the students and staff of the Santa Ana Unified School District community. Battle of the Bands – SAUSD’s Annual Marching Band Showcase

THE EVENT: Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) is bringing the rhythm of feet and the sound of drums to Segerstrom High School Wednesday, Nov. 20. SAUSD will host its Annual Marching Band Showcase starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

SAUSD AND CITY CELEBRATE GARFIELD COMMUNITY CENTER OPENING WITH RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY

SANTA ANA, CA (November, 15, 2013) – An innovate approach to provide a new Community Center to students and area residents will have its ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at James A. Garfield Elementary School, located at 850 Brown Street in Santa Ana.

A 2-story, 10,000 square foot Community Center has been built in order to be jointly operated between the Santa Ana Unified School District and the City of Santa Ana. This partnership will add much needed benefits to both the students and families from the surrounding neighborhoods. The concept for this project was made by a coalition of residents that identified a need for a local community center. Continue reading→

Live banda music at Mexicanismo and the Flamingo Night Club on Nov. 16

The folks who brought you the famed Mexicanismo Night Club, in Santa Ana, have opened the Flamingos Night Club, in Garden Grove, at 19672 Katella Ave.  And they have a big live show planned for this Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at 8 pm.

The show will feature Grupo Escala Musical and Banda Patronez Musical de Tierra Caliente, who are from Ajuchitlan del Progreso in Guerrero, Mexico, as well as a live house DJ.  Continue reading→

Hope for the Holidays Business Mixer set for 11/12 in Garden Grove

The Hope for the Holidays Business Mixer is set for Tuesday, November 12, 2013 form 5:50 PM to 7:30 PM. Local businesses, Chambers of Commerce and community organizations are meeting for a business mixer to help launch food and donation drives, in conjunction with the Community Action Partnership of Orange County.

It is not a fundraiser but they are asking $20 to defray the cost of food. They are bringing together their corporate volunteers who want to help our OC Food Bank to provide food for the hungry this holiday season. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Historical Preservation Society invites you explore the proud history of Santa Ana’s firefighters at an Open House at our newest museum addition, the Santa Ana Fire Museum.

Housed in a working fire station, the public can view vintage equipment and memorabilia dating back to the late 1800s, alongside state of the art contemporary fire trucks and equipment. Hands-off the modern items (and don’t be surprised if a call comes in while you are there!) but don’t miss a hands-on experience with the fully restored 1921 Seagrave fire engine and specially designated items along your guided tour. SANTA ANA, CA (November 6, 2013) – The Santa Ana Public Library is pleased to present the Mexican film, Macario, starring Ignacio López Tarso and Pina Pellicer. A black and white classic, Macario was directed by Roberto Gavaldón and will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles.

Set during México’s Viceregal era, Macario is the story of an impoverished woodcutter whose only desire is to have a turkey all to himself at least once in his lifetime. When he meets three apparitions, he makes a deal with Death, a decision that changes his life drastically. Continue reading→

City’s loaded survey results to be reviewed at public workshops at union halls

Now that the Santa Ana City Council is done conducting their loaded community survey, which reportedly faltered online forcing them to conduct “numerous community meetings” in order to get any answers at all, they are ready to conduct yet another public meeting – a Strategic Planning Community Workshop (that I am sure will barely be attended).

According to a city press release, at this meeting, “staff will inform attendees about the community survey results, solicit additional feedback, and will provide an update on the remainder of the process.”
