2ND ANNUAL SANTORA CELEBRATION HONORS LOCAL ART HEROES

United Artists of Santa Ana (UASA), the galvanizing group that successfully challenged the sale of the Santora to a religious group last year, reboots their annual spotlight on the historic art building with a 1920’s theme ArtWalk and an Architectural lecture & Award Ceremony starting at 7pm in the Santora Lobby, 207 N. Senator Lou Correa Organizes California Healthy Nail Salon Town Hall

Santa Ana, CA – State Senator Lou Correa, in collaboration with the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology (BBC) and Advance Beauty College, is hosting the California Healthy Nail Salon Town Hall. The event will take place on Friday, July 17^th, 2013 from 10:00am to 12:00pm at Advance Beauty College located at 10121 Westminster Avenue, Garden Grove.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide manicurists, salon owners, students from beauty colleges and others in the nail salon industry with a legislative updates and information on the health and safety regulatory requirements. OC Pride Festival set for August 10 in Downtown Santa Ana

The Orange County Equality Coalition (OCEC) is once again hosting the Orange County Pride Festival in Santa Ana, on August 10, 2013, from 12 noon to 10 pm, on Fourth Street, between Broadway and Ross in Santa Ana, CA.

The free festival will be a full day event from 12pm to 10pm in order to accommodate time for festival goers to enjoy all that the event has to offer. There will be hours of high energy performances on the main stage, over a dozen DJ’s playing various music selections in two dance areas, hundreds of exhibitor tents, a beer and wine garden, a family friendly Kids Club, interesting and educational workshops at our Rainbow Symposium and delicious food from local vendors. Police Department will be dedicating a plaque and portrait to Sergeant John Aguilar who died in the line of duty 1998

Details: Sergeant John Alfred Aguilar grew up in Santa Ana, so it was only natural that he returned to his community as part of the Santa Ana Police Department. He dedicated himself to ridding his neighborhood of drugs and helping out the people in his community whenever he could. John began his law enforcement career in 1978 with the Orange Police Department, often working undercover purchasing narcotics. In 1984, he joined the Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement. Assigned to the Clandestine Lab Unit, John participated in raids and seizures of many labs as well as numerous undercover operations. Continue reading→

Celebrate the Supreme Court Prop 8 and DOMA decisions tonight in Santa Ana

In a 5-4 ruling in United States v. Windsor, the court struck down a provision of the 17-year-old Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) that denies federal benefits — like Social Security benefits or the ability to file joint tax returns — to same-sex couples legally married, according to CBS News.

The Supreme Court also cleared the way Wednesday for same-sex marriages to resume in California as the justices, in a procedural ruling, turned away the defenders of Proposition 8. Chief Justice John Roberts, speaking for the 5-4 majority, said the private sponsors of Prop. 8 did not have legal standing to appeal after the ballot measure was struck down by a federal judge in San Francisco, according to the Los Angeles Times.
