SANTA ANA, CA (April 16, 2013) – As the nation’s population continues to become more diverse, Santa Ana Public Library will join hundreds of libraries across the country in celebration of Día de los niños/Día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). The celebration, which will take place at the Main Library on Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will showcase a variety of fun-filled activities and services for children and their families. Gold’s Gym Santa Ana Grand Opening Community Carnival

Santa Ana College Book of the Year Events Feature Performance of Acclaimed NAACP Award-Winning One-Woman Show “Oh, Yes She Did!” on April 24
(Santa Ana)—During this academic year, students, staff, and faculty members at Santa Ana College (SAC) have read and discussed the 2012-2013 Book of the Year, The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Written in 2009, The Help is the story of African-American maids working in white households in Jackson, Mississippi, during the early 1960s.
SAC faculty have included the novel, its themes and civil rights-related topics in their coursework and class discussions. The year-long emphasis will culminate with the following four events slated for this spring: Continue reading

A Candlelight Vigil is going to be held in honor of Jason E. “Hoss” Hallstrom, on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Target center on 17th and Grand Ave., in Santa Ana at 7 pm.
On March 15, Hallstrom and Travis Mock, 29, were being chased by SAPD SWAT officers on I-5 when they got off at Grand Avenue and headed north, Santa Ana authorities said. The officers in question ended up shooting Hallstrom to death, and wounding Mock.
Hallstrom left behind a daughter, Raven Starr Shine, who just turned 15 on February 12th. He had not seen her since she was two years old, and they finally met last year… after 14 years. Continue reading
The Great American Write-In is a free annual event offered to the public by Women For: Orange County to provide attendees with the means to influence policy decisions by writing letters to their legislators. The event is set for April 13, from 9″30 am to 1:20 pm, at the Delhi Community Center, located at 505 East Central Ave., in Santa Ana.
