Forum for parents of children with disabilities about their rights in school

Parents of Children with Disabilities Forum

FORUM FOR PARENTS OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES AND THEIR RIGHTS IN SCHOOL

(SANTA ANA, CA) – Various community leaders and non-profit organizations are working together to hold a forum for parents of children with disabilities to talk about the rights from birth through the education process. For parents who have children with disabilities, the moment they realize that their child has a disability; parents face a new adversity in learning about all the possible resources to help their son or daughter. Sometimes state program or the education system does not provide thorough information concerning the rights of a child with disabilities and parents have many questions their rights as a parent.

This is why Senator Lou Correa in collaboration with Angels of Hope, The Regional Center of Orange County, AbilityFirst Anaheim, Anaheim Union High School district and Dr. April Lopez with Stadium Chiropractic & State Council Developmental Disabilities Board will hold several “Parents of Children with Disabilities Forums”: Continue reading→

If you still care about the Santa Ana Art Walk, it is set for tonight

Well, tonight is the First Saturday of the Month, which means you can head down to Downtown Santa Ana for the monthly Art Walk, which features arts, crafts and live entertainment centrally located at: Artists Village – Second Street Promenade (2nd & Broadway) & the Santiago Arts Colony (Santa Ana Blvd. & Poinsettia).

But do Santa Ana’s residents still care about the Art Walk?  It is mostly attended by folks who don’t live here.  They come here to gawk at the art and hang out with the artists, although few of these folks actually buy any art.  They get drunk at the Memphis, Chapter One, Crosby and the Copper Door.  They chow down at some of those same venues, plus a few others.  They might even head to the Yost for music by performers I never heard of.

Santa Ana, CA — April 6, 2013 recognized as Kiwanis One Day–a global action day benefiting children and communities The Kiwanis Club of Santa Ana is bringing the spirit of service alive in the City of Santa Ana by hosting a full day of service activities which include but not limited to painting the iron fence surrounding our Kiwanis Barrier Free Park and making lei’s, get well cards, origami cranes to donate to local hospitals on April 6, 2013.

The painting and table service projects will take place at Kiwanis Barrier Free Park located in the north side of Thornton Park 1801 Segerstrom Ave. Santa Ana CA 92704 at 8:00am to 4:00pm. Santa Ana, CA – In an effort to address Autism and related disorders, Senator Lou Correa with the Orange County Autism Regional Taskforce (OCART) invite you to an Autism Town Hall Meeting on April 18, 2013 6pm-8pm at the Regional Center of Orange County, located at 1525 N. Tustin Ave., Santa Ana, CA 92705.

Can you believe it?  On Monday, April 1, 2013, Downtown Santa Ana’s “The Crosby” turns 5 years old!  The owners of The Crosby are opening on Monday night at 5 pm for dinner and to celebrate their fifth anniversary.

OCDA AND OC GRIP KICK OFF SPRING WITH 10TH ANNUAL SOCCER CAMP TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY AND POSITIVE CHOICES FOR STUDENTS

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) and the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (OC GRIP) will be hosting the 10th Annual Spring Youth Soccer Camp (SYSC) next week for elementary school students. OCDA’s SYSC is an ongoing gang prevention effort to build self-esteem and encourage healthy and positive choices for young students. The 3-day spring break soccer clinic begins on Monday, April 1, 2013, at 8:00 a.m. and concludes on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. The program will be held at Centennial Regional Park located at 3000 West Edinger Avenue, Santa Ana, and Carl E. Gilbert Elementary School located at 7255 8th Street, Buena Park, and will include students from Davis Elementary, Kennedy Elementary, John Adams Elementary, Diamond Elementary, Carl E. William H. Spurgeon, the founder of the City of Santa Ana, purchased seventy-six acres of land from the Yorba heirs in 1869 and laid out what was to become the Orange County seat. With only six or eight homes in the place and about one hundred fifty souls, thirteen people organized First Baptist Church of Santa Ana on a Saturday in March of 1871, at the local school house.

Services were held in the school house until the first church was built in 1876. The cost was $4000 and it was located on four lots donated by Spurgeon at the corner of Main & Church Streets. The interior was unfinished for a number of years and financial problems were so severe during the first 10 -12 years, that the property was sold for taxes several times. At one point, members mortgaged their homes to pay off the church obligations and one member lost his home because of this. And Santa Ana developed, so did the church. As many members were from surrounding area, certain groups took their letters and established in neighboring cities. Continue reading→

There will be a vigil at the Federal Courthouse during the oral arguments on the constitutionality of DOMA (the Defense of Marriage Act), on Tuesday, March 26, at 6:30 pm.

On March 26th & 27, 2013 the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) will be listening to oral arguments on the constitutionality of DOMA, which states that marriage is between one man and one woman.  Many now feel that it is time to show the depth of equality and justice for all.
