Business and Community Leaders Experience a Day in the life of a Principal in celebration of ‘Principal for a Day’

Event: Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) will host its annual “Principal for a Day” event. During the half-day event, more than 50 community leaders, business partners, supporters and elected officials will visit SAUSD campuses to experience the daily operation of a school. Following their morning assignments, the guest principals and their counterparts will gather at a luncheon, at Santa Ana High School, to share their experiences with each other and District administration. Community potluck to feed the needy and homeless set for 3/23

Community organizer TyRon Jackson is organizing a community potluck for the homeless, families in need, troubled youth, those suffering from various illnesses In Orange County. The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. March 23 at Peppertree Park in Tustin. The Super Incredible Potluck is free and all are welcome to join. THEATRE OUT TO OPEN NEW VENUE WITH THE BROADWAY CLASSIC “Falsettos”

Santa Ana, CA (03/13/2013) – Theatre Out, Orange County’s gay and lesbian theatre company is thrilled to open their new venue with classic Broadway musical FALSETTOS beginning April 13, 2013.

FALSETTOS, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by James Lapine, is a musical examination of family dynamics and love in the age of Ronald Reagan and ignorance. Marvin has left his wife and child for his lover, Whizzer. Marvin’s wife, Trina, has started dating his psychiatrist and struggles daily with the idea of her ex-husband and his lover being part of her extended family. As their son, Jason, begins to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah, the strength of the family is tested at each turn and they soon realize that love defines a family. FALSETTOS premiered on Broadway in 1992 combining Finn’s two one-act musicals MARCH OF THE FALSETTOS and FALSETTOLAND into the first full-length musical to tackle the AIDS crisis head-on. FALSETTOS was hailed as “exhilarating and heartbreaking…” by The New York Times and still touches audiences with its surprisingly modern sensibility. Continue reading→

Our new Assemblymember, Tom Daly, has been rather quiet since he replaced Jose Solorio, in the 69th Assembly District.  I saw him at this year’s Tet Parade and now he is finally getting around to meeting with the people of Santa Ana.  Daly is hosting a “Capitol in Your Corner” event on Friday, March 15, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., during the workday of course, at the Librería Martinez de Chapman University, located at 216 N. Broadway, in Downtown Santa Ana.

(Santa Ana)—Santa Ana College (SAC) is set to open Kristoffer Diaz’s Welcome to Arroyo’s on March 15. First produced at the Lark/Hip-Hop Theater Festival in 2005, this urban hip-hop comedy is a sweet, loose-limbed shout out to Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The Santa Ana Police Officer’s Association (SAPOA) is hosting a St. Paddy’s Jam Fest fundraiser on Thursday evening, March 14, at 7 pm, for the 999 Foundation, that provides support for fallen officers and their families.

You can meet Comic book artists and writers at the Tustin Library, in their Community Room, today, Sunday, March 10, from 1 pm to 3:30 pm, according to Comic Book Therapy. The Tustin library is located at 345 E. Main Street,in Tustin.  This event is sponsored by the O.C. Public Library.

The event will feature a panel discussion with industry insiders: Kevin Grevioux, co-creator of the “Underworld” franchise; Danny Miki, illustrator for Marvel Comics; Christopher E. Long, creator of “Hiding in Time”; Jackson Lanzing and David Server, co-creators of “Freakshow” and Shannon Eric Denton, former writer, illustrator and editor at WildStorm Productions. NESALL Opening Day Ceremony set for Saturday, March 9

Weather permitting the historic Northeast Santa Ana Little League is holding their Opening Day Ceremony this Saturday, March 9, starting at 8:30 am , aver at NESALL Field, located next to Sierra Intermediate School, at 2201 N. Grand Ave..

Games will start at 10:30 am.  Click here to see the full schedule.  The Snack Bar will be open throughout the day – with the usual Little League fare – hot dogs, nachos and fries, plus other snacks and cold drinks.

The Opening Day Ceremony will include members of the Santa Ana High School ROTC’s marching band; Minister Gustavo Lujan; and perhaps a special surprise or two, plus the teams will be showing off their awesome team banners! Continue reading→

TARGET FREE FIRST SUNDAY & FAMILY FESTIVAL

Sunday, March 3, 2013, from 10 AM – 4 PM

Visitors to the Bowers can enjoy free access to the museum, Kidseum, and all activities on the first Sunday of every month, thanks to the Target Corporation. Due to occupancy limits of popular and specially ticketed exhibits, ticket distribution is limited to 1500 tickets per day, 250 per hour on a first-come, first-served basis. All visitors must be present at the time of ticket distribution. Reservations are not accepted. Free to attend.
