Santa Ana Public Library Welcomes Author: Gustavo Arellano

SANTA ANA, CA (November 29, 2012) – The Santa Ana Public Library is pleased to present award winning columnist and author, Gustavo Arellano who will discuss his new book, Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America.

Arellano is the editor of the OC Weekly and writes the nationally syndicated column ¡Ask a Mexican!, which has a circulation of more than two million in thirty-eight markets (and counting). He has received the President’s Award from the Los Angeles Press Club, an Impact Award from the National Hispanic Media Coalition, and a 2008 Latino Spirit Award from the California State legislature. Arellano has appeared on the Today show, Nightline, NPR’s Talk of the Nation and The Colbert Report. Arellano is the author of two previous national bestseller books, ¡Ask a Mexican! and Orange County: A Personal History. Continue reading→

INTERACTIVE ART EXHIBIT SPOTLIGHTS OC’S HOMELESS

As a creative end to Mercy House’s “30 Days in 30 Ways” campaign to raise interest in Homeless Awareness Month, a silent auction and interactive art exhibit will take place at the historic Santora Arts Building in collaboration with United Artists of Santa Ana (UASA).  A warm clothing drive and holiday art faire will round out the evening.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit Mercy House’s important services for the homeless in our community as well as support the work of United Artists of Santa Ana. Thanksgiving Outreach event for the needy, today at the 4th Street Plaza

A Thanksgiving Outreach event for the needy is set for today, Saturday Nov. 17, from 12-3 pm at 4th Street Plaza (at 4th and N. French St.) in downtown Santa Ana.  Event sponsors include Hands of Hope, the City of Santa Ana, and various churches. 

Theywill give away $25 gift cards, shoes, and have carnival games and music. Volunteers are needed for crowd control, prayer partners, face painters, and help with the carnival booths.  If you would like to volunteer you may show up as early as 8 am. Continue reading→

PATCHWORK indie art & craft festival is coming once more to Santa Ana, on Nov. 25, from 11 am to 5 pm, at 2nd and Sycamore.  Patchwork showcases emerging local artists, crafters & designers alongside artisan food, DIY craft workshops and indie music.

Patchwork has attracted thousands of attendees over six years. This year they celebrate their 23rd festival! Patchwork fosters a sense of community and seeks to grow the network of makers in all Patchwork locations. Vendors are selected through a jury and feature clothing for men, women & kids, handbags, accessories, jewelry, art, ceramics, garden finds, home goods, plushies, crochet & knit items, pet gear, kits & patterns, bath & body goodies and more!
