NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., February 22, 2012 – As the cost of gas steadily rises throughout Orange County, reaching an average of $4.12 per gallon according to www.orangecountygasprices.com as of February 22, the Environmental Nature Center has partnered with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to put together a program focusing on greener alternatives to driving personal vehicles.
On Thursday, March 1 at 6 p.m., the ENC will host its “Getting there, Greener” program, alongside OCTA representatives, in an effort to get people out of their cars and onto a bus, train, bicycle, or into a ridesharing program. Continue reading

Orange County Black History Parade and Cultural Fair Will Be held in Downtown Anaheim
Anaheim, California (January 24, 2012) – The 32nd Annual Orange County Black History Parade and Cultural Fair will be held Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in Downtown Anaheim. The event celebrating African American heritage and history begins with the parade, which starts at Anaheim Boulevard at 10 a.m., and concludes with the cultural fair at the Center Street Promenade, after the parade. Featuring food vendors, retail booths, entertainment, a History Walk, community organizations and a Youth Village, the fair promises a day of delicious food, good fun and great entertainment. Once a month, OC Parks and the Irvine Ranch Land Conservancy open Limestone Canyon Wilderness Park up for a Wilderness Access Day. Most of the time, Limestone Canyon is only open for limited guided tours, which anyone can sign up for through the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks Activities page. However, during the Wilderness Access Day, you’ll have free reign around any of the trails in Limestone Canyon.
The main draw of Limestone Canyon is a geological feature called The Sinks. The Sinks is a large canyon carved into the soft limestone hills that has been called The Grand Canyon of Orange County. Unfortunately, people are not allowed to climb down into The Sinks, but are only allowed to look at it from above due to their delicate nature. Continue reading

Community: City of Santa Ana Scheduled to Host a Community Graffiti Clean-up Day
SANTA ANA, CA (January 11, 2012) – In promoting the City’s graffiti abatement efforts, Santa Ana Public Works in collaboration with residents, community volunteers/ organizations, and city contracted graffiti removal crews will host a Community Graffiti Clean-up Day, this Saturday, Jan. 28.
Frazee Paint / The Comex Group will provide “Take-Away” materials and supplies for the graffiti abatement efforts. The City contractor, Graffiti Protective Coatings, will provide five additional trucks at no additional cost to accomplish removal of graffiti from utility poles citywide. 7-Eleven is donating coffee and donuts along with water to keep the volunteers hydrated. The graffiti clean-up day will begin at the Memorial Park stage area and will proceed throughout the various surrounding neighborhoods. Continue reading
