The Swallows’ Day Parade Is Coming

The 55th annual Swallows’ Day Parade and Mercado will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., in downtown San Juan Capistrano. The Swallows’ Day Parade is part of the Fiesta de las Golondrinas—the Festival of the Swallows. The festival is built around the swallows’ legendary return to Mission San Juan Capistrano every St. Joseph’s Day, March 19. The Swallows’ Day Parade is the largest non-motorized parade in the nation, and great fun for the whole family! The parade is a popular event, so be sure to arrive early to avoid street closures that start at 10:00 a.m. The parade will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: The Santa Ana Police Department graduated over 100 Santa Ana parents from the Santa Ana Police Parent Academy

On 03/07/13 and 03/08/13, The Santa Ana Police Department graduated over 100 Santa Ana parents from the Santa Ana Police Parent Academy. The Parent Academy is a comprehensive (5) WEEK/ 10 hour class, which exposes participants to parenting skills, narcotic awareness, child abuse, domestic violence and gang awareness. The classes are taught by subject matter experts to willing parents, who are eager to learn as much as they can about one of the most important topics of all; “parenting.” Continue reading→

NESALL Opening Day Ceremony set for Saturday, March 9

Weather permitting the historic Northeast Santa Ana Little League is holding their Opening Day Ceremony this Saturday, March 9, starting at 8:30 am , aver at NESALL Field, located next to Sierra Intermediate School, at 2201 N. Grand Ave..

Games will start at 10:30 am.  Click here to see the full schedule.  The Snack Bar will be open throughout the day – with the usual Little League fare – hot dogs, nachos and fries, plus other snacks and cold drinks.

The Opening Day Ceremony will include members of the Santa Ana High School ROTC’s marching band; Minister Gustavo Lujan; and perhaps a special surprise or two, plus the teams will be showing off their awesome team banners! Continue reading→

Opening Day in Santa Ana starts on 3/2 with Little League and Pony events

Southwest Santa Ana Little League is celebrating their Opening Day this Saturday, March 2, from 10 am to 12 noon, at Memorial Park, which is located on Flower and Saint Gertrude.

Following the Opening Day ceremonies will be a fun game pitting the Coaches against the Southwest Santa Ana Little League’s Board Members.  Great food will be cooking at their awesome Snack Bar all day long.

Santa Ana Pony Baseball is also hosting their Opening Day ceremonies this Saturday, March 2, 2013, starting at 8 am, at Alona Park. Continue reading→

Santa Ana now has both Pony and Little League baseball – which is better?

Kids in Santa Ana are getting ready for a new season of Little League baseball, but in North Santa Ana they are now split between an upstart Santa Ana Pony League that ousted the Northwest Santa Ana Little League, and the historic Northeast Santa Ana Little League.

As a Little League parent I always dreaded visiting the Northwest Santa Ana Little League.  Many of the parents were too competitive.  My son played at the AA level last year and at one game against a Northwest team the manager of the team was so rude to the umpire that I sought out the Northwest duty officer.  She told me this was none of my business.  I later sent an email to the Northwest board and they blew me off.

So when I heard that the Northwest League was switching to the Pony League I figured, “good riddance!”  But they are cannibalizing kids from our area, as Pony can take kids from anywhere in Santa Ana.  However NESALL is fielding teams at every level this year and our T-ball teams have really exploded, which bodes well for the future of Little League baseball in Northeast Santa Ana. Santa Ana’s Cub Scout Pack 26 is hosting their annual Blue & Gold Banquet, which is a celebration of the anniversary of the Cub Scouts, tonight, Friday, February 22, 2013, at 7:00 p.m., at First Congregational Church of Santa Ana, located at 2555 Santiago St., in Santa Ana’s Park Santiago neighborhood.

This is a great opportunity for your family to find out what the Cub Scouts are all about!  Feel free to come on by and get to know us.  This years banquet will be a potluck. Pack 26 is asking each scout family to sign up to bring either a side dish, salad or a main dish.
