U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez lost her campaign money in the Kinde Durkee scandal – but it may not matter. Her new 46th congressional district “encompasses most of Santa Ana, parts of Garden Grove, Anaheim, Westminster and Fullerton. Previous drafts of the maps gave the area, which is home to Disneyland and a heavy population of immigrants, a slight Republican edge,” according to the L.A. Times. The district is 45 percent Democrat and 32 percent Republican, according to the O.C. Register.
And the “latest maps, keep the Latino voting population nearly the same as in her current district, but edge out some of the Asian American voters by splitting Little Saigon.” Not to worry if you are a Vietnamese American voter in the O.C. I hear that Congressman Dana Rohrabacher is going to retire in a couple of years. His new district includes a big chunk of Little Saigon. It is quite possible that the seat will end up being represented by a Vietnamese American some years down the road. Continue reading

UPDATE: O.C. Register editorial writer Brian Calle weighed in on the Lincoln Club’s proposal this Sunday, admitting that “Calls for amnesty for illegal immigrants or even a pathway to citizenship are taboo among Republicans, who fear potential conservative backlash for merely broaching the issue. Yet, 67 percent of all Latino voters, and 64 percent of Latino Republicans, support a pathway policy. And 58 percent of Americans support the same approach.”
Martin Wisckol reported this week that the Orange County Lincoln Club, a group of rich Republican businessmen, has “announced an immigration-reform proposal that would provide a path to legal residency for illegal immigrants.” Of course Wisckol reported this without questioning any of it.
That sounds great but it isn’t true. Oh sure, the Lincoln Club wants us to think they have broken with the usual GOP hatred of Mexican immigrants, but upon further review their plan is just indentured servitude – without U.S. citizenship.

SAUSD Schools Get Top National Blue Ribbon
Status Muir Fundamental and Thorpe Fundamental Elementary Schools Are Two of Four Recognized Countywide
SANTA ANA, CA — September 15, 2011 – Two Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) elementary schools have been declared tops in the nation. The U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today has named both Muir Fundamental Elementary and Thorpe Fundamental Elementary School as National Blue Ribbon Schools. They are among 304 nationally and two of only four in Orange County to receive this meritorious honor this year.

Santa Ana Firefighter Scott Townley “created a moving tribute to 9/11 victims for the tenth anniversary of the attack. The memorial includes more than 400 crosses for the police officers and firefighters who died,” according to ABC News.
The Santa Ana Fire Department (SAFD) also held a Remembrance Ceremony, on Sunday, September 11, to pay tribute and honor the 343 Firefighters and 72 Police & Port Authority Officers who lost their lives that tragic day, according to their Facebook page. (See the flier below).
But SAFD Chief Dave Thomas ordered his fires stations NOT to fly the U.S. flag today at half-staff. He said today was only a remembrance, not a memorial, according to one of our readers, who is a City of Santa Ana Youth Commissioner. He said he verified this by talking to SAFD firefighters.
