Body found after a fire was put out under a 5 Fwy. bridge at N. Broadway this morning

Fire at the Santiago Creek by Broadway and the 5 Fwy.

If you live or work anywhere near the Santiago Creek, from Broadway to Main, then you know the area is rife with the homeless. This morning, at about 5:40 a.m., there was a fire at one of the homeless encampments in that area, at the 2700 block of N. Broadway and the 5 Freeway, and firefighters discovered a body after the fire was put out, according to the O.C. Register.

OCFA firefighters were able to put out the fire, which was under a bridge, in about 15 minutes. Then they found the body. Continue reading→

A house in Santa Ana was heavily damaged by an explosion last night

A man in his mid-50s was sent to the hospital with severe burns Wednesday evening after a house at the 2700 block of Townley Street exploded in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

The incident was originally reported as a structure fire but an explosion occurred in the center of the house at around 8 p.m., according to the OCFA. Continue reading→

A fire destroyed two cars at a DTSA parking structure on Wednesday

The O.C. Fire Authority is investigating a fire that took place on Jan. 4, at a parking structure in Downtown Santa Ana, at 5th and Broadway, at about 4 p.m., according to the OCFA.

A witness that was sitting in his car across from the parking structure heard an explosion and then saw two vehicles on fire. There was a big emergency response team on site including the SAPD, the OC Sheriff and the OCFA. An ambulance showed up as well but left the scene. Continue reading→

A bartender accidentally set a woman on fire at DTSA’s Lola Gaspar this morning

An unidentified woman was burned at the Lola Gaspar restaurant located at 211 West 2nd St. in DTSA shortly after midnight on New Year’s Eve after a bartender lit liquor on fire, according to the O.C. Register.

Authorities said a bartender poured alcohol onto the bar at Lola Gaspar and lit it on fire, according to ABC News. Somehow the woman’s hair and face caught fire, just after midnight, according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

Synopsis: On 12/18/16, the Santa Ana Police Department responded to the report of a burglary at the Orange County Fire Authority Fire Station #72 located at 1688 East 4th Street. The subsequent investigation revealed that arson fires were set in nearby neighborhoods to draw firefighters away from the station allowing the burglar(s) to enter the station as the fire engine left to fight the fire. Is that Roman Reyna parking illegally?

A fellow who looks exactly like Santa Ana City Councilman Roman Reyna illegally parked his silver BMW, license plate #6PQT919, in the fire lane and within 15 feet of a fire hydrant directly in front of Godinez High School, on Sep. 28.

Reyna, who is up for reelection this year, previously served on the SAUSD School Board – and he once worked for the Santa Ana Parks and Recreation Agency. So one would hope that he knows better than to endanger the lives of Santa Ana’s students by parking in fire lanes and blocking fire hydrants in front of our schools. Continue reading→

Firefighters quickly knocked out a Santa Ana apartment building fire today

A fire at an apartment in the 1400 block of South Sycamore Street began at around 12:20 a.m. today, but was quickly knocked down by O.C. Fire Authority firefighters, according to the OC Register.

The fire reportedly began in a second floor apartment. It was knocked down in about 15 minutes and did not spread to the rest of the building, according to the OCFA. Continue reading→

Apartment fire on East Walnut St. put out by 27 OCFA firefighters

There was a fire reported this morning at an apartment building located at the 600 block of East Walnut, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Fire Authority.

Twenty seven OCFA firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 11:19 a.m.

The fire reportedly started in a second-floor unit of the apartment building and it spread to the building’s attic, according to the OCFA. Continue reading→

SAPD performed an illegal fireworks enforcement operation and confiscated approximately 300 pounds of illegal fireworks and issued two(2) $1,000 fine administrative citations.

Drunk homeless man arrested after starting a brush fire at Santiago Park

Martin Alonso Cea, a 33-year-old drunk homeless man, was arrested on Monday night after lighting vegetation on fire inside Santiago Park, according to the O.C. Register.

Cea, 33, was seen by two people around 8:10 p.m. inside the park at 2535 N. Main St. just before he intentionally started a brush fire near the creek bed, according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

Nine people lose their home to a fire on South Hickory Street in Santa Ana

A single-story home at the 2000 block of South Hickory Street, in Santa Ana, caught fire today at approximately 1 pm, according to the O.C. Register.

A 96-foot Christmas tree at the South Coast Plaza was destroyed by a fire early today

The 96-foot Christmas tree worth $120,000 was destroyed Monday morning in a fire outside the Westin South Coast Plaza hotel, according to the O.C. Register.

Firefighters got a call at 6:34 a.m. that the tree, a 96-foot white fir from Mt. Shasta, was burning, Costa Mesa fire spokesman Capt. Chris Coates said, according to the L.A. Times. Continue reading→
