Ralphs, the Kroger-owned grocery chain, is closing their last grocery store in Santa Ana, at 2741 W. MacArthur Blvd., on Oct. 23, according to the O.C. Register.

Ralphs closed a popular location on 17th St. and Bristol a few years ago. That store is now a Smart and Final. The Kroger company also closed a popular Food 4 Less location on Grand and 17th a few years ago. That site remains empty today.

Get a $5 Habit Burger Grill combo and help feed needy kids on 9/18 at the O.C. Register

On Sept. 18, 2015 a food truck operated by Irvine-based Habit Burger Grill will be offering a $5 meal special to benefit the nonprofit Share Our Strength. The Habit Truck will set up in the visitor parking lot of The Orange County Register from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. serving $5 combo meals that include a charburger with cheese, fries and a drink. Other entree options will include a gluten-free lettuce wrap and veggie burger, according to the O.C. Register.

Habit officials said 100 percent of all funds will go to Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, a nationwide effort to wipe out childhood hunger in the United States by educating families on how to cook healthy, affordable meals at home. Continue reading→

Gennieve Marie Rankin, 25-years-old, passed away last Friday in a tragic car accident. She leaves behind her husband, Santiago “El Chago” Duran and a 4-year-old daughter and funeral bills that her family cannot contend with by themselves.

Her family is hosting a Kermes this Saturday, September 12, 2015, at Centennial Park in Santa Ana, located at 3000 W. Edinger Ave., starting at 10 a.m., to raise funds to help pay for her funeral.

Community Alert: BIG FIESTA IN DOWNTOWN SANTA ANA / FIESTA GRANDE EN EL CENTRO DE SANTA ANA

The 37th annual Fiestas Patrias event will take place on Saturday and Sunday September 12 and 13 in the City of Santa Ana’s historic downtown. The street fair is on 4th street between French and Sycamore and is filled with food booths, great cultural merchandise, arts and culture booths, and a large main stage showcasing over fifteen performances.

The headliner for the main stage on Saturday at 8 PM is Maribel Guardia and for Sunday at 7 PM is Fidel Rueda. Ms. Guardia is a singer, dancer and a well-known T.V and Film actors. Mr. Rueda increased his popularity with the release of the very popular disc entailed Paz en Este Amor, which landed his music on the Billboard charts in both the Regional Mexican Airplay and Hot Latin Tracks categories. 4th Street Market in Santa Ana, CA is having their very own Hatch Chile Festival today, August 30, 2015, from 12 noon to 3 pm, at 201 E 4th St, in Downtown Santa Ana.

So what the heck are Hatch Chiles? Here is their story, courtesy of iHatch Chile:

Developed in the late-60′s and early 70′s by Dr. Nakayama, as a result of a breeding program at the New Mexico State University, a chile was being developed with the intent to supply the need for fresh chiles in the canned and processing industry. But, this unnamed chile was too “beefy.” There was simply too much chile, which in turn, created more waste than the processing facilities would want to deal with. Bella Marri’s Ristorante Italiano is a hidden gem in north Santa Ana

Magdy and his wife, Fiby, Towfeless met in Eqypt over 28 years ago. He went on to develop a very successful career in aerospace engineering. Madgy purchased an Italian restaurant in Anaheim back in 2006 and moved it to Santa Ana. Bella Marri’s Ristorante Italiano opened in its new digs at 1631 E. 17th St., in north Santa Ana, in May of this year.

My wife Camille and I had dinner at Bella Marri’s tonight and we had a chance to talk to Magdy and Fiby and their son Tim. Their other son, Marvin, is at UC Riverside where he is finishing a degree in Bio Med Engineering. Continue reading→

But Santa Ana’s CPK looks new again as they recently completed a remodel that has given them a modern and inviting new look. The warm, rustic décor features oak floors, tabletops and chairs made from reclaimed wood, stone countertops, fabrics and décor made from recycled materials, a natural herb garden, and artwork that celebrates local landmarks in Santa Ana.
