The Orange County Children’s Therapeutic Arts Center is hosting a free family festival today, June 29, 2013, with student performances, games, food, art activities, a book give-away, drawings and more.

Diego’s Downtown opened this week and is ready to take your orders at 224 E. 3rd Street in Santa Ana, according to the OC Weekly. They are located at 224 E. 3rd Street in Santa Ana. But you cannot check them out on Father’s Day as they are closed on Sundays and Mondays, according to their website.

Valley High School Culinary Arts Students Win
National Cooking Up Change Competition in D.C. for the Second Consecutive Year
The Valley High School Culinary Arts team is the reigning champions in the national Cooking Up Change competition that was held in Washington, D.C. Monday, June 10, 2013. This is the second consecutive year that Valley has taken home the title. The team consisted of three students — Carlos Ortiz (12th), Cecilia Magana (12th) and Cesar Amezcua (11th), supported by their Culinary Arts Teacher Monica Aguilar. Continue reading
The Santa Ana People’s Garden is hosting a Summer Solstice Celebration on June 22, 2013, from 10 am to sunset, at 2555 Santiago Street, in Santa Ana. The Summer Solstice is the peak of the growing season when the sun is at the highest point in the sky.

Good food news to report – Santa Ana’s Green Parrot Villa is opening for lunch and dinner after several years of being used strictly as a banquet facility. They are having a little pre-opening preview party today, May 5, from 3 pm to 5 pm, with free samples of their delicious food.
The Green Parrot Villa is located at 2035 N. Main St., across from the Bowers Museum. There is a large free public parking lot just north of them, on the east side of Main St., just south of the 5 Freeway. Reigning Valley High School Culinary Arts Champions Prepare to Defend their Title in Cooking Up Change Competition
The award-winning culinary arts team at Valley High School in the Santa Ana Unified School District is making preparations to remain the champions of the National Cooking up Change® competition. On April 18, at Northgate Gonzalez Market Corporate Headquarters in Anaheim, Valley High School culinary arts students will join other student chefs from local high school culinary programs in Orange County to chop, slice and serve up fresh, healthy and delicious school menus as part of Cooking up Change®. No Award of Excellence for the Playground and their bloody burgers…
Only three Santa Ana businesses have received Awards of Excellence certificates this year from Orange County Public Health. NONE of Downtown Santa Ana’s allegedly gourmet restaurants received these awards. In fact no restaurants in Santa Ana won this award. That’s right. And wait until you check out the award winners:
Orange County Public Health’s Environmental Health Division has issued 3,274 Award of Excellence certificates to local Orange County food facilities, representing an increase of almost 30 additional food facilities from the previous year. From a qualifying group of 9,839 food facilities throughout the County, these establishments were recognized by Environmental Health’s Food Protection Program for their outstanding food safety and sanitation practices during 2012.
