Man shot while riding a bike on the Santa Ana River Trail bikepath near Edna Park

A man said he was shot in the leg Friday night while he was riding his bicycle on the Santa Ana River Trail bikepath near Edna Park. The man said that he heard up to five gunshots come from behind him, according to the O.C. Register.

The victim was shot in the leg but somehow he was able to pedal his bike for almost a mile, to a liquor store at North King and West 17th streets. The SAPD found him there at about 9:30 p.m. when someone who saw him bleeding near the store called the police. Continue reading→

Innocent bystander critically injured in drive by gang shooting

Two men were injured, including an innocent bystander who was in critical condition, after a gang shooting Tuesday night at about 8:14 p.m.,at the 1000 block of West 2nd Street, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Gang members were driving on West 2nd Street and shot the first victim, who is a known gang member but they also shot an innocent man in his 30s. Continue reading→

GANG MEMBER CONVICTED OF MURDERING ONE WOMAN AND ATTEMPTED MURDER OF FEMALE BYSTANDER

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A gang member was convicted today of the murder of one woman and attempted murder of a female bystander. Irvin Tellez, 27, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count each of first degree murder, attempted murder, and street terrorism with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, criminal street gang activity, and great bodily injury. Tellez faces a maximum sentence of 112 years and eight months to life in state prison at his sentencing, Nov. 20, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Co-defendant Jaime Prieto Rocha, 42, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty Sept. 4, 2015, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter with a sentencing enhancement for criminal street gang activity. Rocha is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 30, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department H-1, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach. Continue reading→

Gang member shot by several gang members at McFadden and S. Toland St.

A Santa Ana gang member was shot in the leg Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at McFadden Ave. and South Toland St., according to the O.C. Register.

The victim was walking by himself when three or four gang members got out of a car to confront him. After exchanging a few words the suspects all pulled out handguns and fired several shots at the victim. Continue reading→

Teen shot in the back near Garfield Elementary School

A male teen who appeared to be 17 or 18 years old was shot in the lower back today at about 7:45 p.m. at the 700 block of North Lacy Street, according to the O.C. Register.

The victim was walking nearby on Civic Center Drive when multiple shots were fired from a passing vehicle. The SAPD suspects the shooting was possibly a gang-related attack. Continue reading→

Drive by shooting a block from Santa Ana High School injures an 18-year-old male

An 18-year-old Latino was shot on Saturday night, at around 8:38 pm, in the 300 block of South Birch St., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register. The SAPD described the incident as a possible drive-by shooting.

SAPD police officers found the victim in an alley and he was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center, where he was in stable condition. Continue reading→

Gang member shot a few blocks from Segerstrom High School

A man who admitted to being a gang member was shot at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday at the 3500 block of South Fairview Street, in Santa Ana, in what the SAPD believes was a gang-related attack, according to the O.C. Register.

When the police arrived at the scene the shooting victim was gone however a few hours later the Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center contacted the police to report that they were treating a man with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Continue reading→

Co-defendant Irvin Tellez, 27, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count each of murder and attempted murder, with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, and great bodily injury. If convicted, Tellez faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. A male teenager was shot in Santa Ana on Friday at around 6:30 p.m. when he was walking near the 1700 block of North Spurgeon St., according to the O.C. Register.

The young man was approached by two males. He began running away due south on Spurgeon St. and both of the suspects then pulled out guns and fired multiple shots at the teen. He was hit in his right arm and left hand. Continue reading→

Jaime Prieto Rocha, 42, pleaded guilty Friday to voluntary manslaughter. He also admitted a sentencing enhancement for gang activity and a murder charge was left open. Rocha was ordered to return to court Oct. 30 for a pretrial and sentencing hearing, according to the O.C. Register. He is expected to be sentenced to 16 years in prison for the manslaughter conviction.

A co-defendant, Irvin Tellez, 27, a Garden Grove resident, will begin soon. His case is expected to be assigned to a judge on Tuesday. He is also charged with felony murder but also attempted murder with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, and great bodily injury. He faces up to 75 years to life in prison if found guilty, according to the OC Weekly. Continue reading→

Salvadoran MS-13 gangbanger wanted for murder was working at a Santa Ana car dealership

Javier Arnoldo Ceron Gomez, 21, a member of the deadly MS-13 street gang was tracked to an unnamed car dealership in Santa Ana where he worked washing cars and was arrested and departed to El Salvador on Friday, where he will face charges of being involved in the killing of a government prosecutor, according to the O.C. Register.

Gomez is one of several MS-13 members accused in the killing on March 7, 2015, of Andres Ernesto Oliva Tejada, an attorney in the homicide unit of the Salvadoran Attorney General’s Office. Oliva Tejada was parking his car when he was shot multiple times by someone on a passing motorcycle, according to Virginia Kice, an ICE spokeswoman. Continue reading→

Homeowner took a gun away from a burglary suspect and shot him

A Santa Ana homeowner, Erickson Dumaual, defended himself early today when a man tried to break into his home, at the 2500 block of West Manly Ave., in Santa Ana’s Ward 6, which is represented by Councilman Sal Tinajero.

The homeowner shot the suspected burglar and held him at gunpoint. The shots were fired before 4:30 a.m., according to the O.C. Register.

Dumaual saw two suspects in his backyard and he told the police that one of the suspects appeared to be brandishing a gun. Somehow Dumaual was able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect, who has been identified as 19-year-old gang member Bryan Bravo. Dumaual shot Bravo while the other suspect ran off. Is the summer of 2015 a rerun of the Santa Ana gang war that heated up in 1989?

A war between two small Santa Ana gangs – the 5th Street and 17th Street Gangs, left a 4-year-old child dead way back in 1989. The slaying came after “a moderate amount of gang activity, moderate to heavy” during the summer, according to the L.A. Times.

Sounds a lot like this summer doesn’t it? Once again we have a number of Santa Ana gangs at each other’s throats. Their graffiti is everywhere and it is taking a long time, sometimes over three weeks, for the City of Santa Ana’s anti-graffiti contractor to paint over the gang tagging. Continue reading→

Why is the Santa Ana City Council ignoring the growing gang threat?

Have you noticed that the City of Santa Ana is no longer responding quickly to graffiti? The situation has worsened in the past few weeks – it is now common to see crossed out graffiti as gangs try to take the upper hand. The graffiti is also becoming more intricate.

It is completely dismaying to see how much crime happens in our city. Don’t look to the SAPD for that info. Unlike many other cities in Orange County that provide crime statistics on a regular basis, such as Anaheim, Irvine, Tustin and Fountain Valley, the City of Santa Ana sits on the data. Survey – are SAPD cops really worse than local gangbangers?

Protesters marched on McFadden Street last night in opposition to the SAPD and the OCDA’s gang injunction in the Townsend Street neighborhood.

The SAPD did themselves no favors when they recently raided and tried to destroy an unlicensed medical marijuana dispensary. The cops on that raid helped themselves to marijuana edibles and said awful things about an amputee – not realizing that they were being videotaped.

The bad cops and the Santa Ana Police Officer’s Association filed a lawsuit last week in Orange County Superior seeking to prevent Santa Ana police internal affairs investigators from using a hidden camera video from a May 26 raid at Sky High Collective to determine if department policies were violated, according to the O.C.
