‘Take the Test, Take Control’
National HIV Testing Day
(Santa Ana) – June 27 marks National HIV Testing Day, which helps promote testing and early diagnosis of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. There are 6,674 individuals reported to be living with HIV in Orange County with over 300 people being diagnosed with HIV each year. There are an additional estimated 1,774 people living in Orange County who have HIV and don’t know it – many of whom will develop AIDS before realizing they are HIV infected. Continue reading

Activists, for the second year, asked Orange County supervisors Tuesday to recognize Harvey Milk’s birthday with a proclamation, but the board declined the opportunity, as it did last year, according to the L.A. Times.
This happened last year too, but Supervisor Janet Nguyen fled the dais that time, before the activists and residents who came to the Board of Supervisors’s meeting had a chance to speak. This time, according to the L.A. Times, she stuck around but fled the room before her colleagues and County staff could speak.
Nguyen likes to pretend that she is a moderate but in the end she is just as much a knuckle-dragging Republican as are her colleagues. They are all anti-gay and that is pretty much how their party rolls – although they have just as many closted homosexuals in politics as their local Democratic counterparts do. Continue reading
Apparently one of my readers insinuated that liberal Democrat Julio Perez, who is running for the 69th Assembly District (in last place according to a recent poll) is gay.
I tried to find the comment but could not. However it appears to have set off Orange Juice bloggers Greg Diamond and Vern Nelson. Diamond in fact immediately began to threaten me and he said that he would use the courts to force me to give up the IP address of the commenter who apparently insinuated that Perez is gay. The OC Weekly named Santa Ana’s gay bar, the Velvet Lounge, the #1 gay bar (in a tie) in Long Beach and Orange County, on Dec. 31. But our friends at the Santa Ana Sentinel have a problem with the Velvet Loungers:
There is a recurring littering problem happening outside of the gay glub “VLVT” near the corner of Fourth & Ross streets. At the end of any given night clients of this club use the sidewalk near 410 W. Fourth street as a makeshift restroom.
That’s right, apparently the Velvet Loungers are apparently peeing all over the place – in public! No bueno! Continue reading
THEATRE OUT TEAMS WITH ALL PUPPET PLAYERS TO PRESENT TONY AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL “AVENUE Q”
Santa Ana, CA (1/04/2012) Theatre Out, Orange County’s gay and lesbian theatre company, is pleased to partner with Orange County’s All Puppet Players to present the Tony Award-Winning musical AVENUE Q beginning January 13, 2012. Running through February 25, this imagintive musical combines humans and puppets in a completely adult send-up of childhood favorites such as The Muppets and Sesame Street.
AVENUE Q tells the story of Princeton, an eager recent college graduate, who, down on his luck but still optimistic, looks for a place to live in an apartment complex on Avenue Q. While looking for a job and his purpose in life, Princeton finds friends and love. Other denizens of the avenue include the reclusive, porn-addicted Trekkie Monster; the bright-eyed school teacher, Kate Monster; unusual roommates, Nicky and Rod; Lucy the Slut, fiances Brian and Christmas Eve and Gary Coleman (yes, THAT Gary Coleman). With a music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx and a witty, heartfelt book by Jeff Whitty, AVENUE Q has been an audience favorite since it debuted Off-Broadway in 2003. Continue reading
When Santa Ana’s gay bar, Velvet Lounge, was granted a C.U.P. (Conditional Use Permit) by the City of Santa Ana’s Planning Agency, they got most of what they asked for – except that they were forbidden from engaging in “adult entertainment.” Well, judging from the pictures on their website, it looks like they might be violating their C.U.P. – regularly. (Santa Ana) – December 1st is World AIDS Day, an international day of reflection to remember those who have died and those who are living with HIV or AIDS (HIV disease). World AIDS Day 2011 is about “Getting to Zero”: Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that approximately 33.4 million people are living today with HIV disease, including over 1.2 million people in the United States. One in five (21%) of those people living with HIV is unaware of their infection (CDC, 2010). Continue reading

Set 10 years later at the North Pole, Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart But The Very Next Day You Said You Were Gay, Episode 2: The North Pole Strikes Back or; The Return of the Magi sees the return of Santa and has band of gay elves as they try to help Holly and Barry’s child overcome her conservative nature and discover the true gayness of the holiday season. Their plan is going along smoothly until a Tea Party activist follows Mrs. Claus home from the Betty Ford clinic and threatens to out Santa Claus to the world.
