Why did Jack Jakosky buy the Santora building and ruin its arts scene?

Santa Ana artist Theo Hirsch has published a new post about the owner of the Santora building, Jack Jakosky, and I learned a few things while reading it.

It turns out that “Jakosky comes to the Santora building himself, with his girlfriend weekdays and weekends, in order to shut down the building and lock the bathrooms.” Jakosky is a very wealthy man, but he comes to Santa Ana himself to secure the Santora building? That is pretty odd.

While Jakosky has cleaned up and repaired the Santora he has also killed what used to be a fun art scene at the venerable arts building. As Theo pointed out, the Santora now looks like a jail. Continue reading→

Santa Ana artist rips Santora building owner Jack Jakosky

On [Santa Ana] Art walk nights, Jack “JackOffCity” Jakosky sits in the Santora Basement scouring at all of the people who come downstairs with his Nazi/German [looking] girlfriend, like some paranoid wannabe-Hitler figure who can’t really communicate to anyone (a guy like this would probably imprison the planet if he had the charisma to actually communicate with people). He sits there in wait to make sure that no one has any fun, and to make sure they close down the basement by 10 pm on a Saturday night art walk night.

Where does this “Jackoff” get time to suppress people’s fun like that? The old owner never even came by the place, ever. I can’t believe this “JackOff” doesn’t have anything better to do. Or, I can’t believe someone would buy a building like that, and then not want to add to what was already there instead of take it away and ruin the art scene. Or, why he would not want to get to know the community that was already going on, is beyond me. Continue reading→

Jakosky once paid for murals based on Newport Beach, for a public school

The Santora Mural may be gone but last night, during the Artists Village Art Walk, artists and supporters gathered to pay homage to the artwork, which was whitewashed by the new owner of the Santora building, Jack Jakosky.

The artists cleverly set up a projector to recreate the image of the destroyed mural, on the now white wall. Someone set up a picture of famed Indian leader and freedom fighter Mahatma Ghandi. Continue reading→

Santora Arts building sold to a Newport Beach resident who supports the arts

The Santora Arts Building, the iconic Spanish Colonial style building that anchors Santa Ana’s downtown Artists Village, has been sold to Newport Beach resident Jack Jakosky, according to the Voice of OC.

Jakosky said in a brief interview that he wants to rekindle the building’s art scene, which has been declining in recent years as other businesses fill studios vacated by artists. Continue reading→
