Border Patrol Stops Sex Offender at the Border
CALEXICO, Calif. – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Station arrested a previously deported convicted sex offender in the desert area approximately 13 miles west of the Calexico port of entry today.
The 34-year-old man was apprehended by Border Patrol agents when illegally entered into the United States. Agents later identified the man as Jesus Bermudez-Alvear, a citizen of Mexico.
Criminal record checks revealed that Bermudez is a convicted sex offender, convicted of sexual intercourse with a minor out of Santa Ana. Bermudez was previously removed from the United States and served a 60 day prison term and a three year supervised release on Mar.30, 2000. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, CA – Aug. 6, 2015 – Admittedly, human rights are not acknowledged around the world. Here in Santa Ana, the issue is now on the radar with the Kiwanis Club.
Last week the Santa Ana Kiwanis Club welcomed the Executive Director for the Youth for Human Rights International’s Orange County Chapter, Oriana Cordero Dernehl, who works to educate youth about human rights.

Modesto Tapia-Clara, the gardener whose body was found in Santa Ana’s Centennial Park this week, was from Mexico. He was here in the U.S. working to send money back home to his wife Erica and his 1-year old son, Modesto Tadeo. Sadly his passing has left his family in a bad way.
The news got worse today as the baby that his wife Erica delivered prematurely the same day that Modesto died, has passed away, according to an update posted on the GoFundMe site that was set up this week to help this family to pay for the funeral costs involved in sending Modesto’s body back to Mexico. The family needs to raise about $5K to send Modesto’s body back to Mexico. So far they have raised over $400. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A man on the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) Most Wanted List was arrested and extradited from Mexico after he fled during the middle of a jury trial for committing lewd acts with a child in 1991. Henry Arthur Quinones, 75, was convicted by a jury on Sept. 9, 1991, of 26 felony counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14, in his absence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 8, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
“This defendant is a pedophile who has escaped punishment for too long. He committed one of the worst violations against a young innocent child,” stated District Attorney Rackauckas. “We will never give up on seeking out fugitives until they’re brought to justice.” Continue reading

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR SHOOTING-MURDER OF SISTER’S BOYFRIEND
*Defendant is accused of fleeing to Mexico after the murder
SANTA ANA – A man is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow for the shooting-murder of his sister’s boyfriend. Adan Rodriguez Leon, 32, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder and a sentencing enhancement for personal discharge of a firearm causing death. He is also charged with sentencing enhancements for previously being convicted of possession of a loaded firearm by an active participant in a criminal street gang in 2008 and sale or transportation of a controlled substance in 2010. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 52 years to life in state prison. The People will be requesting he be held on $5 million bail at his arraignment tomorrow in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on April 8, 2015, Leon is accused of going to his sister’s home in Santa Ana. The defendant is accused of contacting his sister’s boyfriend, 39-year-old Paul Guzman, outside the home. Leon is accused of pulling out a loaded firearm and shooting the victim multiple times. Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in Mexico too? But not for the same reasons. They celebrate it because of the “San Patricios.” The Saint Patrick’s Battalion (Spanish: Batallón de San Patricio) was a unit of 175 to several hundred immigrants (accounts vary) and expatriates of European descent who fought as part of the Mexican Army against the United States in the Mexican-American War of 1846 to 1848.
Most of the battalion’s members had deserted or defected from the U.S. Army. Made up primarily of ethnic Irish and German Catholic immigrants, the battalion included Canadians, English, French, Italians, Poles, Scots, Spaniards, Swiss, and native Mexicans, most of whom were Roman Catholics.
