Alas poor Mike Gonzalez. Not only did he lose his Santa Ana City Council race on Nov. 6, he also got bad news early on Friday morning as his restaurant/nightclub El Mexicanisimo caught fire.
A total of 65 firefighters showed up at the scene, at around 3:15 a.m., to fight what turned out to be a wind-driven fire that started on the roof of the facility, according to the OCFA.
The fire was knocked down quickly but the nightclub is a complete mess. Continue reading
A family from Zacatecas
Imagine not seeing your parents for some 15 to 20 years? That has been the fate of many Southern California residents who came here to this country from the Mexican state of Zacatecas. While they have raised their kids here in the U.S. they have been unable to see their parents, who stayed behind in Mexico.
Yesterday however a number of families from Zacatecas were flown here to the U.S. with humanitarian visas which will allow them to stay here for up to six months. They took a bus from the airport to El Zocalo, the Mexican restaurant and nightclub owned by Mike Gonzales, who is running for Santa Ana’s Ward 2. Continue reading
I was at an SAUSD school board forum last week and was shocked when some of the boorish radicals in the audience booed when they heard that I got a contribution from the Santa Ana Police Officers Association. Most folks in Santa Ana don’t hate the police. But a small, very vocal minority does. And they are backing a slate of candidates that we need to steer clear of.

Santa Ana’s local politicians on the Santa Ana City Council and the SAUSD School Board are trying to raise our taxes again with ballot measures in the upcoming November General Election. But their desire to raise our taxes will only hurt our residents and businesses at a time when the public is increasingly opposed to heavy taxation at all levels.
The largest age group in Santa Ana is the 25 to 44 group, making up over 31% of the population while those over 65 make up about 7% of the population. Over 30% are under the age of 18. The median household income in our city is $54,521, according to the City of Santa Ana. The median household income in Orange County is $78,145 according to the U.S. Census. Continue reading
The early returns are in with regard to today’s General Election. So far the incumbents are leading in all of the Santa Ana City Council races. It is early yet but in what should prove to be a low turnout election this first batch of votes can foreshadow the evening’s results. These are the early absentee votes – representing the most frequent voters.
Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido is thoroughly trouncing Councilman Roman Reyna, with over 52% of the vote versus only 32% of the vote for Reyna. Clearly Reyna’s campaign was undone by his unwise decision to hang out with gang bangers.
In Ward 2 the incumbent, Michele Martinez, is leading with 53.8% of the vote in a crowded field. Shockingly Gilad Salmon is in second place with 21.3 % of the vote. Not surprisingly the sole Republican in the race, salsa dancer Rene Gomez, is in dead last with 9% of the vote. Continue reading

The election is almost upon us and the latest news is not good for the splintered Team Santa Ana. A major labor association has conducted secret polling that shows that Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido’s team of City Council Candidates are in a dead heat with the splintered Team Santa Ana.
This is huge news as the Team Pulido slate, which includes Ward 2 candidate Mirna Velasquez, Ward 4 candidate Alex Padilla and Ward 6 candidate Miguel Gonzalez, has much less political experience than the longtime Council incumbents they are facing off against – Councilman David Benavides, Councilwoman Michele Martinez and Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero. It was a rough night for Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero. He blew off the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce’s candidates forum – but then he got caught playing hooky when he showed up on tonight’s telecast of the Angel’s playoff game in Anaheim. In fact Tinajero showed up at least twice!
Now I know that Tinajero is a huge Angels fan, and it has been awhile since the boys in red made the playoffs but tonight’s no show at the Chamber’s candidates forum comes at a bad time for Tinajero. He is not running much of a reelection campaign – he has no campaign website and I have seen no evidence of any precinct walking or any other campaign activities. It just seems like he is going through the motions this year – even though he has a challenger in the form of businessman Mike Gonzalez, who is campaigning very hard for Ward 6. Continue reading
Santa Ana’s Mayor Pro Tem, Sal Tinajero, is up for reelection in Ward 6, in this November’s General Election, but you would hardly know that as he still doesn’t have a campaign website. Tinajero has a personal Facebook page but hasn’t even bothered to launch a Campaign Facebook page.
What is up with Tinajero? I know he is a busy guy but the message he is sending to the voters is that he isn’t interested in their vote.
This is the wrong year for Tinajero to take a vacation during campaign season as he has a challenger who is working hard and who is known in the community, in the form of Miguel “Mike” Gonzalez. Continue reading

Well the dust has finally cleared and we now know who is running for the Santa Ana City Council in this November’s General election.
The Mayor’s race lost many of the candidates who had pulled papers, including State Senator Lou Correa and Santa Ana Councilman Vince Sarmiento. The incumbent, Mayor Miguel Pulido, is running again and he will be facing off against first term Council Member Roman Reyna and a fellow named Mark I. Lopez, who is an entrepreneur/soldier, according to the Voice of OC. Continue reading
Miguel “Mike” Gonzalez has announced his campaign for Ward 6 on the Santa Ana City Council. That seat is currently held by Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero, who works as a public school teacher and debate team coach in Fullerton.
Gonzalez’s campaign website states:
