FORMER MARINE CHARGED WITH POSSESSING NON-LETHAL GRENADE AND MILITARY FUSES IN JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT

SANTA ANA – A former Marine has been charged with illegally bringing a non-lethal grenade, knife, and other military materials into John Wayne Airport (JWA) by checking them in his bag and carrying them on his person. Gregory Thomas Salyer, 23, Independence, KY, is charged with one felony count of placing a destructive device in a checked baggage, two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, one felony count of receiving stolen property, and one misdemeanor count of carrying a switch-blade knife on his person. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison. Salyer is being held on $500,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned today, Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Department CJ-1, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined. He served in Iraq and now Jouvon M. Kingsby is an artist in Santa Ana

He served 15 months in Iraq, where he was blown up 4 times by IEDs (improvised explosive device). And he also painted a mural in what used to be Saddam Hussein’s bunker.  So what is Jouvon Michael Kingsby up to now?

According to a fantastic new article in Santanero, Kingsby has set up shop over at the Spurgeon Building, in the Santa Ana Artists Village.  He’s a part of the art collective ‘X is the Weapon’ as well as showing many of his pieces in local galleries and shows. Additionally, Kingsby is designing the cover for KRS-ONE and Maylay Sage’s upcoming collaboration.

Second Annual Bikes and Bombers set for 6/9 at the Lyon Air Museum

The 2nd Annual Bikes and Bombers event, at the Lyon Air Museum, is set for this Sunday, June 9th 2013, from 10 am to 2 pm.

The event includes exclusive motorcycle parking, complimentary coffee & donuts provided by co-sponsor Triumph/Ducati of Newport Beach, live entertainment featuring The Mark Wood Band, People’s Choice Bike Show sponsored by Danny Gray Hand Crafted motorcycle seats (winner gets to have their photo taken at the controls of the Museum’s B-17 and a gift certificate from Danny Gray), “meet and greet” WWII pilots, food and merchandise vendors.

All motorcycle riders attending this event may enter Lyon Air Museum at the discounted rate of $8.

Anti-war protesters to hand out fliers at Santa Ana High School on 5/30

Peace activists will be providing information to students the military won’t provide – How to get out if you join, stats on jobs, giving up your rights, and more, at Santa Ana High School on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 6:30 am, according to a Facebook event page.

The event organizers are asking their followers to “be polite and don’t walk on school property, and please don’t block sidewalks.”  And apparently they will have fliers in Spanish for parents, too. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, CA (October 31, 2012) – To commemorate the upcoming Veteran’s Day holiday and to recognize the service and contributions made by U.S. Military Veterans, The City of Santa Ana, Santa Ana WORK Center in partnership with the State of California Employment Development Department will host a Flag Raising Ceremony and Job Fair.

The ceremony will begin on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 8:30 am, at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, located at 1000 E. Santa Ana Blvd, Santa Ana.
