HUSBAND SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE FOR 2004 SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES CONSPIRACY-MURDER BY SOLICITING MURDER OF WIFE

SANTA ANA – A husband was sentenced Friday to life in state prison without the possibility of parole for the 2004 solicitation-murder of his wife. Magdi Faiz Girgis, 62, Westminster, was found guilty by a jury April 17, 2014, of one felony count of special circumstances murder, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder, and sentencing enhancements for murder for financial gain and murder to prevent testimony were found true.

Co-defendant Anthony Edward Bridget, 40, is charged with one felony count of special circumstances murder, one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder, one felony count of aggravated assault, one felony count of false imprisonment by violence, and sentencing enhancements for murder for financial gain, murder by lying in wait, and murder during the commission of a burglary. If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole. MAN SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS IN PRISON FOR SEX TRAFFICKING TWO FEMALE MINORS, AGES 16 AND 17

*Co-defendant in this case was convicted and awaits sentencing

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to six years and four months in state prison for sex trafficking two minor girls, ages 16 and 17 years old. Michael Wayne Greer, 25, Sacramento, pleaded guilty June 3, 2014, to one felony count each of human trafficking of a minor and pandering a minor over 16 years old by procuring.

Co-defendant Jaylin Juwan Marshall, 21, Sacramento, pleaded guilty June 3, 2014, to one felony count each of human trafficking of a minor and pandering a minor over 16 years old by procuring. Marshall has a prior strike conviction for a 2011 residential burglary in Sacramento County. Marshall is expected to be sentenced to 10 years in state prison at his sentencing July 18, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. SANTA ANA – Over the vigorous objection and arguments of the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA), a child molester with 17 known victims will be released into the community within the next 72 hours. Alan Thomas Rigby, 66, of Irvine, has been in a state mental hospital for 16 years, where he was committed after serving 50 percent of a 19-year prison sentence.

At a Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) probable cause hearing today, Judge Kimberly Menninger found that probable cause did not exist that Rigby is likely to engage in sexually violent predatory criminal behavior upon his release. The standard of proof for probable cause is whether a reasonable person could entertain a strong suspicion that the offender is an SVP. The OCDA argued to keep Rigby civilly committed as an SVP and believes Rigby still poses a danger to the community based on his past crimes and propensity for sexual assaults against children. MAN LINKED THROUGH DNA CONVICTED OF SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES MURDER OF 84-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN 1984 COLD CASE

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted yesterday of special circumstances murder of an 84-year-old apartment complex owner in a 1984 cold case. Richard Stanley Sandoval, 60, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of special circumstances murder in the commission of rape or attempted rape and faces a sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole at his sentencing Aug. 8, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-36, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

In 1984, 84-year-old Margaret Lenney owned and lived in an Anaheim apartment complex on Winston Road. Sandoval, then 30 years old, was hired by the victim to paint the complex but did a poor job and was fired. He returned to the complex on several occasions to ask to borrow money from tenants. MAN CONVICTED OF MOLESTING TWO BOYS AND POSSESSING GRAPHIC AMATEUR AND COMMERCIAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of sexually assaulting two boys, ages 9 to 11, and possessing graphic amateur and commercial child pornography featuring young boys. Oscar Manuel Vaquera, 39, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury of two felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, two felony counts of possession of child pornography, and one felony count of distributing child pornography with sentencing enhancement allegations for lewd acts against more than one victim and substantial sexual conduct with a child. He faces a maximum sentence of 33 years to life in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration at his sentencing Aug. 8, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-34, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

At the time of the crimes, Vaquera lived in a bedroom in an Anaheim house. Other people, to whom the defendant was not related, also lived in other bedrooms in the home. Vaquera drilled a hole from his closet into the bathroom and secretly photographed and recorded young boys as they used the restroom and showered. Continue reading→

MAN SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR PIMPING AND PANDERING WOMAN

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison for pimping and pandering a woman in Santa Ana. Damion Henri Soul, 40, Pomona, was convicted by a jury on Dec. 4, 2013, of one felony count of pimping and one felony count of pandering. The sentencing enhancements for two prior strike convictions from 1993 in Los Angeles County for armed robbery, assault with a firearm, and prior prison felony convictions in 1998 for forgery, and possession of a controlled substance in 2003 and 2006 were found true.

In the early morning hours on Sept. 4, 2013, Soul engaged in the distribution of commercial sex. Soul pimped 20-year-old Jane Doe by unlawfully deriving support and maintenance in whole and in part from the earnings and proceeds of the prostitution of the victim. Soul oversaw her as she solicited commercial sex from men in an area known for prostitution in Santa Ana. An undercover Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) officer witnessed Jane Doe getting inside Soul’s car and shortly thereafter, arrested the defendant. Continue reading→

17-YEAR-OLD CHARGED AS ADULT FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER FOR STABBING MAN IN GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT

WESTMINSTER – A 17-year-old was charged as an adult today for attempted murder for stabbing a man as he was loading groceries in a parking lot. Steven Matthew Lowry, Fountain Valley, is charged with one felony count of attempted murder and one felony count of attempted carjacking with sentencing enhancements for personal use of a deadly weapon and great bodily injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 11 years to life in state prison. The People will be requesting he be held on $1 million bail at his arraignment tomorrow, Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-2, West Justice Center, Westminster.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on June 14, 2014, Lowry is accused of approaching 50-year-old Manuel S. as the victim was loading groceries into his vehicle in a Stater Bros. parking lot in Fountain Valley. The defendant is accused of attempting to carjack the victim. When the victim refused to give up the keys to his vehicle, Lowry is accused of stabbing the victim two times in the abdomen, once in the back, and once in the chest. When Costa Mesa attorney Steve Young last ran for office, in 2012, he said that “Democrats can’t simply run against the culture of corruption in Washington.”

Perhaps he was serious. Young is now one of Carlos Bustamante’s lawyers. You remember Bustamante? A former Santa Ana Councilman who was brought into the halls of the County of Orange and turned into a darling of the OC GOP? Only to find himself arrested and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors stemming from sexual harassment charges?

Here’s the deal. Bustamante now admits that he had sex with all sorts of women at the County of Orange but he says it was consensual. He has paid bitterly for his misbehavior – losing his job and his wife. But his lawyers, Young and another lawyer named Gina L. Kershaw, say that he was set up. So was he? Continue reading→

Alfred Alexander Hollimon, 24, Westminster, was found guilty by a jury March 21, 2014, of two felony counts of child abuse, one felony count of mayhem, and a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury to a child under 5, with a prior strike conviction in 2008 for attempted robbery in Nevada. 44-YEAR-OLD MOTHER SENTENCED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TWO UNDERAGE TEENAGE BOYS WHO CAME OVER TO HER HOUSE

FULLERTON – A 44-year-old mother was sentenced today to three years and four months in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for sexually assaulting a 14 and 16-year-old boy who came over to her house. Nicole Ethel McMillen, 44, Irvine, was found guilty by a jury Oct. 16, 2013, of four felony counts of lewd acts upon a child and three felony counts of oral copulation of a minor under 16 years old.

Between Jan. 1, 2012, and Feb. 28, 2012, McMillen had sexual contact with 14-year-old John Doe #1 who was over at her house to play with his friends. McMillen maintained a “fun” home where many children spent time with her children participating in activities which included watching movies or playing video games. Continue reading→

WESTMINSTER – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Cypress Police Department (CPD) are seeking potential additional victims of a dance production company employee charged with video recording underage girls in a dressing room and possessing over 1,000 images of child pornography. Paul Michael Barbour, 33, Long Beach, is charged with one felony count each of possession and control of child pornography, possession for sale of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, cultivating spores with the intent to produce a controlled substance, one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and a sentencing enhancement allegation for possessing more than 600 child pornography images with more than 10 images of a minor under the age of 12. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison and six months in jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department W-2, West Justice Center, Westminster. The time is to be determined.

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to six years in state prison for pimping and pandering a woman after being stopped by undercover Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) officers. Raphael Jared Scally, 28, Hesperia, was found guilty by a jury March 13, 2014, of one felony count each of pimping and pandering. Scally was also charged with a crime-bail-crime sentencing enhancement for a 2010 residential burglary case, for which the defendant was out of custody on bail at the time of this crime. That sentencing enhancement was found true today by the Court. He was sentenced to four years in state prison plus an additional two years stayed pending resolution of the 2010 residential burglary case.

Co-defendant Darryl Da Keis Gillard, 27, Hemet, is charged with two felony counts each of pimping and pandering with a sentencing enhancement for crime-bail-crime, indicating that the defendant was out of custody on bail for another felony (2010 residential burglary case) at the time of the crime. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of nine years and four months in state prison and is scheduled for jury trial June 17, 2014, at 8:45 a.m. in Department C-5, Central Justice Center. MAN LINKED THROUGH DNA TO 2001 COLD-CASE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF WOMAN HE KIDNAPPED FROM BUS STOP CONVICTED

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today for kidnapping a woman from a bus stop and forcibly sexually assaulting her in his car in a 2001 cold-case after being linked to the crime through DNA using the Orange County District Attorney’s (OCDA) local DNA database. Raul Moreno-Perez, 34, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count each of kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, forcible oral copulation, and sentencing enhancement allegations for increasing the risk of harm by kidnapping and kidnapping to commit a sexual offense were found true. He faces a maximum sentence of 34 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration at his sentencing June 18, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-36, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Circumstances of the Sexual Assault

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2001, 19-year-old Jane Doe was waiting at a bus stop on Main Street in Orange. Moreno-Perez drove up in his vehicle and stopped his car near Jane Doe. He asked the victim if she wanted a ride and then drove away when she declined. Continue reading→

FULLERTON – A 57-year-old man was sentenced today to three years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for engaging in illegal sexual conduct with a 14-year-old boy he met on Craigslist. Mark Aime Brosseau, Stanton, was found guilty by a jury Oct. 30, 2013, of one felony count each of lewd acts upon a child, contacting a child with the intent to commit lewd acts, and meeting a child with the intent to engage in lewd conduct.

On the night of Sept. 25, 2010, Brosseau parked his Ford pick-up truck in a parking structure at Bella Terra Mall in Huntington Beach and engaged in sexual conduct with 14-year-old John Doe in the vehicle. PAROLEE SEX OFFENDER ON GPS MONITORING ARRAIGNED ON CHARGES OF PIMPING AND PANDERING 18-YEAR-OLD WOMAN

SANTA ANA – A parolee sex offender on GPS monitoring was arraigned today on charges of pimping and pandering an 18-year-old woman. Eddie Bridges, 36, Compton, was charged today with one felony count each of pimping and pandering by procuring and sentencing enhancements for serving separate prison terms and not remaining free for five years: two prior convictions in 1996 and 1998 in King County, WA, for possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, one prior conviction for possession of marijuana in Maricopa County, Ariz., one prior conviction in Los Angeles County in 2007 for pandering of a minor, and one prior conviction in Los Angeles County in 2011 for attempted pandering. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 11 years in state prison. He is being held on $100,000 bail and must prove the money is from a legal and legitimate source before posting bond.
