FELON OUT ON THE STREETS DUE TO PROP 47 SENTENCED TO 18 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ASSAULTING PEACE OFFICERS WITH SEMIAUTOMATIC FIREARM

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A felon who had two of his prior felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors under Proposition 47 (Prop 47), which resulted in his release from custody, was sentenced today to 18 years in state prison for shooting his firearm at police officers while leading them on a chase.

“Orange County law enforcement is second to none, and our united efforts continue to keep Orange County safest among all surrounding counties despite the continued passage of anti-public safety laws,” stated District Attorney Tony Rackauckas.

Several Buddhist temples in Santa Ana were vandalized this past weekend

Vandalism Targeted at Buddhist Temples in Santa Ana Declared a Hate Crime by OC District Attorney

This past weekend a number of Buddhist temples in Santa Ana were vandalized, causing extensive damage to religious statues and other temple property. Law enforcement officials have footage of a suspect in the act of vandalizing and are asking for help from the community in locating the individual.

The targeting of Buddhist temples is cause of great concern for the Vietnamese-American Community in Orange County. Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas will be announcing that he will consider these criminal conducts as possible hate crime. If convicted, this will lead to greater punishments for the offender(s). Continue reading→

A Santa Ana man got only six years in prison after a DUI crash that killed two including a child

Armando Edgar Duran Cruz, a 38-year-old Santa Ana man, was sentenced Friday to only six years in prison for a DUI crash that killed another man and his 6-year-old nephew in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Cruz pleaded guilty April 30 to two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving drunk causing injury, according to the OCDA.

Cruz got a light sentence as part of a plea bargain with Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD And OCDA Investigating In-Custody Death -3400 Block South Plaza Drive

On Monday, July 23, 2018, at 10:52 AM, Santa Ana Police officers responded to the apartment complex at 3400 South Plaza Drive for a reported fight inside an unspecified apartment. Upon arrival, officers heard a commotion, to include breaking glass, from a second story apartment. The officers called out to the occupant of the apartment and requested he come out to speak with them.

An unidentified adult male exited the apartment partially clothed displaying objective symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Officers detained the subject for further investigation. The subject became unresponsive. Officers began lifesaving measures and requested Orange County Fire Authority paramedics. Continue reading→
