OCTA Urges Solo Drivers To Try Other Travel Options During Rideshare Week

Commuters will have a chance to learn about the benefits of using alternate modes of transportation during national Rideshare Week, which runs from Oct. 7 through Oct. 11, 2013.

Rideshare Week is an annual event that focuses on environmentally friendly transportation options, which include buses, trains, carpools, vanpools, bikes and more.

Release of 2012 Orange County Coroner Report

SANTA ANA, California – (September 12, 2013) – The Orange County Coroner Division of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department has released the 2012 Coroner Report. The report is designed to provide an overview of victim characteristics, frequency, cause and location of deaths in Orange County.

The MainPlace Mall was full of families enjoying their air conditioning as was the MainPlace Picture Show Theater where you can watch a first-run movie, several weeks after its release, for just two bucks. Regional Bikeways Roll Forward

Thanks to essential collaboration in the Fourth District, the Coyote Creek Bike Trail extension is making significant progress. The Coyote Creek Bike Trail meanders along the border of Orange and Los Angeles counties.

In its current state, the 9.5 mile trail runs along Coyote Creek from Sante Fe Springs to Long Beach, eventually connecting to the San Gabriel River Trail. Once the gaps are closed along the north end of the trail, this off-street bikeway would connect cities such as La Mirada and La Habra all the way to the coast. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – Three sex purchasers were convicted and sentenced for soliciting sex from a woman whom they believed to be a prostitute. Omar Jesus Moreno, 35, and Ariel Castro, 42, both of Santa Ana, each pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of agreeing to engage in prostitution. Both defendants were sentenced to three years of informal probation, 10 days in jail with the possibility of CalTrans in lieu of jail, and must submit to AIDS testing and education. Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s campaign consultant, Dave Gilliard, has launched a blistering attack on the Voice of OC, an independent non-profit, non-partisan online media outlet, and the Orange County Employees Association (OCEA).

Gilliard’s attack is quite ironic given that Nguyen and her allies were caught red-handed this week, taking money from the Orange County Employees Association by The Orange County Register.

Could Gilliard’s attack be an attempt to change the issue from the fact that Nguyen and company took OCEA money, despite a county Republican Party ban on endorsing office seekers who accept political contributions from labor groups? Continue reading→

Judge Denies Voice of OC Request for Bustamante Records

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday denied Voice of OC’s request under the California Public Records Act for documents showing what top county officials knew when they allowed former executive Carlos Bustamante to quietly resign in October 2011, months before District Attorney Tony Rackauckas charged Bustamante with a dozen felony sex crimes against female employees.

In turning down the request, Judge David McEachen wrote that his civil court “has no power” to overturn a June 24 protective order issued by a criminal court hearing Bustamante’s case. Continue reading→
