WHO: Emmanuel Hugo Hernandez, 26, Orange

WHAT: Will be arraigned today on one felony count each of child abuse and battery causing serious bodily injury. The defendant is accused of being a walk-on wrestling coach at Villa Park High School and putting a 17-year-old student in a wrestling choke hold, causing the victim to go unconscious. Hernandez is accused of punching the unconscious victim twice in the side of the head and then fleeing the scene. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. He is being held on $100,000 bail. Continue reading→

OCTA Honors Veterans In Annual Event

Former military make up approximately 10 percent of OCTA’s workforce

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority this week recognized the service of employees who are military veterans during OCTA’s fourth annual Veterans Day Appreciation event.

OCTA employs 120 veterans from the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Coast Guard, representing nearly 10 percent of the workforce. OCTA has been recognized by military organizations as a military-friendly employer for its efforts to actively recruit veterans. Continue reading→

Santiago Canyon and Santa Ana Colleges Offer 4-Week January Intersession

(Santa Ana)— Santa Ana and Santiago Canyon College are offering a January intersession beginning January 6, 2014 through February 2, 2014. Students who were enrolled during fall 2013 will be able to register for classes starting Monday, November 4. New and returning students can register beginning November 6 and registration remains open until January 3, 2014.

A wide range of classes are available at both colleges with an emphasis on general education requirements, including English, mathematics, science, social sciences, kinesiology, and more. Group sues the City of Orange over sex offender Halloween sign ordinance

California Reform Sex Offender Laws, an advocacy group, has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a Halloween ordinance in Orange that requires sex offenders to post a sign on the front door of their residence notifying trick-or-treaters that no candy is available, according to the O.C. Register.

The signs, which are mandated by the city, read “no candy or treats at this  residence,” and must be no smaller than 12 inches by 24 inches. The ordinance, passed in 2010, also bans sex offenders from putting out  holiday decorations, leaving outdoor lights on, and answering the door for  children on Oct. 31, according to KTLA. It is a big night tonight in Downtown Santa Ana – with both the First Saturday Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk and the OC Film Fiesta – but does the general public in Santa Ana care about any of this?

Most Santa Ana families were fighting to stay cool today and many were out and about supporting youth sports.  The MainPlace Mall was full of families enjoying their air conditioning as was the MainPlace Picture Show Theater where you can watch a first-run movie, several weeks after its release, for just two bucks. The Democratic Party of O.C. quits Santa Ana and moves to Orange

Can you believe it?  The Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) is abandoning Santa Ana for a new office in Orange.  They are hosting a Grand Opening at that new office on September 7, 2013, from 12 noon until 3 pm.

The DPOC was in Santa Ana for almost two decades.  Ironically they will be paying less rent for their new digs, which are ” larger, brighter, newer, more visible location next month” according to their Facebook page.   Continue reading→

Orange International Street Fair Opens Aug. 30

(ORANGE, CA) The streets of downtown Orange will be filled with filled with people, bands, vendors and food for the annual Orange International Street Fair, which begins Friday, Aug. 30 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 1.

The three-day event allows local groups to get exposure and raise funds by selling food and crafts. This year’s theme is “Sweet on Summer,” marking the 40th continuous year of the Street Fair. Continue reading→

MAN CONVICTED OF SEXUALLY ASSAULTING FIVE FEMALES, INCLUDING RAPING TWO MINORS, AFTER GIVING THEM ALCOHOL

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of sexually assaulting five females, including raping a 14-year-old and 17-year-old girl, after giving them alcohol. Max Danilo Martinez, 33, Corona, was found guilty by a jury of three felony counts of forcible rape, one felony count of sexual penetration by foreign object by force, one felony count of rape of an unconscious person, and sentencing enhancement allegations for sexual crimes against multiple victims. He faces a minimum sentence of 63 years to life in state prison and a maximum sentence of 68 years to life in state prison at his sentencing. The sentencing date is to be determined and will be set at a hearing Aug. 16, 2013, in Department C-43, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

This Fourth of July, law enforcement throughout Orange County are stepping up enforcement efforts as part of the ongoing DUI Task Force, joining thousands of agencies statewide in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement crackdown to catch and arrest impaired drivers who put themselves and others at risk. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Officer Involved Shooting Update – 800 S. Townsend

SANTA ANA, CA (June 24, 2013) – On 6/23/13 at approximately 0805 hours, two officers were patrolling the area of 800 S. Townsend. During this patrol check, an officer encountered a female in the alley and an officer involved shooting occurred. The female was struck and was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries at 0855 hours. It was later learned that a replica firearm was located near the female’s body after she was taken into custody.

On 6/24/13, the Orange County Coroner’s office notified the suspect’s next of kin and confirmed the female’s identity, as that of 35-year old Jessica Gonzalez. Gonzalez was also confirmed as the same suspect wanted in connection with Orange Police Department’s recent homicide. Continue reading→
