(Orange County, CA) – Supervisor Todd Spitzer is sponsoring a Pet Adoption Event on Saturday, September 3rd and Sunday, September 4th.

Have Some “Fun in the Sun” at OC Animal Care’s Annual Pet Fair

(Orange, CA) OC Animal Care will be hosting its annual Pet Fair event this Saturday, June 25 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., at 561 The City Drive South, Orange. The event, which is sponsored by Supervisor Shawn Nelson and 4th District, will feature free adoptions for all pets adopted from OC Animal Care. The free adoption does not include the cost of the microchip or licensing. In 2015, 87 shelter pets found their new forever home during Pet Fair. This year, we aim to adopt more than 100!

Supervisor Todd Spitzer is pleased to announce a free pet adoption weekend on March 19th and 20th. The event is going to be held at OC Animal Shelter located at 561 The City Drive South, Orange, CA 92868. The free pet adoption event is going to be held during normal working business hours of the OC Animal Shelter from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Dog hit by a car saved by a good Samaritan and the Santa Ana School Police

Last night, Santa Ana Unified School District Police Officers were in the area of Dyer and Main Street when they observed a dog get hit by a car. The dog was thrown across the street and into a storm drain.

The Officers immediately responded and with the help of an unidentified Good Samaritan, were able to pull the man hole cover open. An Officer was then able to climb down into the storm drain where he retrieved the injured dog. The dog was transported to an animal hospital for treatment and is expected to survive. NEWS ADVISORY: Poodles, labs and more to ride OCTA buses for service training

WHAT: Service and therapy animals in training are invited to join their handlers in making bus rides a familiar and relaxed experience during the Orange County Transportation Authority’s Service Animal Training Day.

Roundtrip training buses, not in service to the public, will depart every 20 minutes from the ARTIC station in Anaheim to the Downtown Disney District and the Anaheim Garden Walk. Participants can take unlimited rides during this event for free. Continue reading→

Record Adoption Numbers at OC Animal Care During Clear the Shelters Adoption Event

The totals: 147 animals adopted – 86 dogs, 54 cats and seven rabbits

(ORANGE, CA) August 18, 2015 — More than 300 pet adopters lined up as early as 6 a.m. for the chance to adopt a needy pet during the Clear the Shelters Adoption Event at OC Animal Care on August 15. The event, hosted by NBC4 Southern California and Telemundo, was a firstof-its-kind nationwide pet adoption initiative aimed at finding thousands of pets permanent homes.

OC Animal Care offered a reduced adoption fee of $17, which included spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, flea treatment and deworming. By 3 p.m., more than 93 homeless pets had been adopted into new homes. Continue reading→

Santa Ana rated among the worst cities in the U.S. for pet lovers

The City of Santa Ana is among the worst cities in the U.S. for pet lovers, according to a new study by WalletHub.

WalletHub compared the creature-friendliness of the 100 most populated U.S. cities across three key dimensions: 1) Budget, 2) Health Care & Wellness and 3) Outdoor Environment & Amusement. Santa Ana resident charged with importing and transporting illegal ferrets

Santa Ana Police Department police officers arrested Santa Ana resident Sebastian Alexander Swisher (23) today and charged him with CCR 671K (Importation and transportation of live restricted animals). He was reportedly buying the Ferrets in the State of Nevada and transporting them to California where it is illegal, according to an SAPD press release.

Swisher was raising the ferrets and then selling them for up to $400 on Craigslist, according to Santa Ana Animal Services supervisor Sondra Berg, as reported by the O.C. Register. If he didn’t report that income then Swisher might be guilty of tax evasion too.

Santa Ana Police Department Animal Control Officers received information that the suspect was in possession of illegal Ferrets.

He really did not hide his hobby as there are many pictures of Swisher on his Instagram page. Continue reading→

19 neglected and sick dogs removed from home of an animal hoarder in Santa Ana

Nineteen neglected and sick dogs were removed from a home in the 2200 block of West 14th Street, in Santa Ana, on Tuesday morning by animal control officers after someone filed an anonymous complaint, according to the O.C. Register.

Santa Ana animal control officers discovered 22 dogs, including Chihuahuas, pugs, and terriers, all suffering from neglect. Nineteen of the pooches are in need of medical care. They are receiving treatment at the Orange County Animal Care, according to ABC News. Continue reading→

OC Animal Care Needs Public Assistance Locating Dog and Owner

(Orange, CA) OC Animal Care is investigating a dog involved in an attack on two horses in O’Neill Regional Park on March 27, 2015. The horses were being ridden on Live Oak Trail at approximately 12:45 pm. The equestrians reported that both horses sustained multiple bites by the dog, which reportedly was being walked off-leash by its owner at the time of the attack.

Anyone with information on the dog, the owner or the attack is encouraged to contact OC Animal Care Operations at (714)796-6460. Please reference case A15-008874. Reporting parties are permitted to remain anonymous if they choose. Bees kill three dogs at a home in West Floral Park

The SAPD’s Animal Services Section was called to the home of Linnea Chapman, in the 2200 block of North Olive Street, in the West Floral Park Neighborhood Association, at about 1:30 p.m. with a report that three dogs were dead and might have been killed by bees, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said, as reported by KTLA News.

A bee specialist determined that the bee hive was in a shed in an adjoining property. The dogs were riled up by a pool cleaner and the noise they made prompted the bee attack. Continue reading→
