MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR NEGLECTING TO CARE FOR DOG’S ENTANGLED LEG CAUSING DOG TO CHEW PART OF HIS OWN LEG OFF

WESTMINSTER – A man is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow on animal abuse charges for allowing his dog to become entangled in the backyard, causing the dog to chew a part of his own leg off. Samer Samir Ibrahim, 23, Westminster, is charged with one misdemeanor count of keeping an animal without proper care and one misdemeanor count of animal abuse by a caretaker. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of one year in jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Feb. 26, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-4, West Justice Center, Westminster.

Ibrahim is accused of owning and caring for an 11-month-old German Shepherd named Rocky. He is accused of only allowing the dog to remain in the backyard in conditions where the dog caught fleas and was significantly thinner than an average healthy German Shepherd. Continue reading→

Rabbits found in crowded cages at a Santa Ana home now at OC Animal Care

Santa Ana Animal Services officers rescued 61 rabbits living in terrible, overcrowded conditions on Wednesday at a one-car garage located at the 400 block of S. Broadway Street in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Santa Ana Police Officers were at that location on a different matter when they discovered dozens of rabbits that lived four or five to a cage, including nine pregnant bunnies.

Santiago Elementary School’s Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Club, which is comprised of 30 5th grade scholars, can celebrate the success of their most recent project – “A Cause for Paws.”

Each trimester, the RAK Club ambassadors vote on a community service project to promote school-wide that will help all the students, parents and staff at Santiago practice kindness. Service Animal Training Offers Free Rides for Dogs and Owners

Event helps service animals and handlers learn to navigate public transit 

ORANGE – A free service animal training day, hosted by the Orange County Transportation Authority and Knott’s Berry Farm, is back for the second time this year.

The training day is set for Saturday, Oct. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fullerton Park and Ride, 3000 W. Orangethorpe Ave. Participants can begin checking in at 7:30 a.m. to receive their Knott’s Berry Farm wristbands. Participants will enjoy unlimited practice boarding, riding and exiting an OCTA bus with their service animals. The round-trip training bus will depart every 20 minutes and will follow a special bus route for training day attendees. Trainers are encouraged to ride multiple times.  Continue reading→

A Savannah Monitor Lizard was found basking in the sun and eating tomatoes in a backyard in Santa Ana’s Park Santiago Neighborhood, which is north of the 5 Freeway and not far from the MainPlace Mall.

NEWS ADVISORY: Dogs Will Pack OCTA Buses For Day of Training

WHAT: Dogs riding buses. More than 100 service animals and their handlers are expected to attend a unique training event on April 5 that will help them get accustomed to navigating the public bus system.

Handlers will work with their therapy and service animals – including Golden Retrievers, Labradors, poodles and more – continually boarding, riding and exiting an Orange County Transportation Authority bus so they can get familiar with large groups of people, loud noises and unfamiliar sights and sounds. Participants also will get access to the Knott’s Berry Farm theme park, where they will encounter the sounds of whizzing rollercoasters, children running toward their favorite rides and plenty of other activity. SANTA ANA – A Newport Beach elementary school teacher is scheduled to be arraigned Monday for animal abuse after hoarding and improperly housing over 400 snakes. William Frederick Buchman, 53, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of animal abuse by a caretaker. If convicted, Buchman faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison. Wouldn’t the Santiago Park Lawn Bowling Center be a great place for a dog park?

Rent.com has compiled its list of the Top 10 Dog-Friendly Cities in America. The scores were based on factors like rental inventory, walkability, pet care costs, dog parks, and other dog-friendly establishments and events, according to the California City News.
