First District Special Election Certified

Final ballot counting and official certification complete

SANTA ANA, CA – January 30, 2015 – Registrar of Voters Neal Kelley has just certified the official results of the Orange County Board of Supervisors’ First District Special Election held on January 27, 2015.

Total turnout from the election was 22.6% with 19% of voters casting their ballot by mail and 3.5% of voters voting in their polling place. In the 2007 First District Special Election overall turnout was 22.4%, vote-by-mail voting was 17.3% and polling place voting was 5.1%. Continue reading→

Correa loses by 43 votes to Do in the First District Special Election

The final votes have been tallied and apparently Andrew Do beat Lou Correa by 43 votes in the First District Special Election, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

I suppose there might be a recount, but why bother? This election was lost when Correa, for whatever reason, did not attack Do. Instead Correa spent a small fortune on mailers that touted his public safety record. It was reminiscent of Jose Solorio’s failed campaign last year against Do’s old boss, Janet Nguyen, in the race for the 34th State Senate District. Continue reading→

Do widens his lead over Correa in the First District Special Election

Andrew Do has widened his lead over Lou Correa, in the First District Special Election, as the Orange County Registrar of Voters continues to process the provisional ballots. Do now leads by 239 votes whereas he previously led by 2 votes.

This outcome was expected as the Viet turnout yesterday was very high while Latino voters appear to have slept through the election. Continue reading→

OC Chairman Spitzer Committed to Fair and Impartial Special Election Results

(Orange County, CA) — Results for the First District special election on the Orange County Board of Supervisors remain too close to call. The election night count showed just two votes separating top vote-getters Andrew Do (16,202) and Lou Correa (16,200) in the five-candidate race. 41,767 ballots have been counted, and there are an estimated 6,105 ballots remaining.

“As Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, I want to assure the voters of Orange County that our county government is doing everything in its power to ensure fair and impartial elections. Lou Correa losing in the First District Special Election by 2 votes

The ballots have all been counted in the First District Special Election and it appears that former State Senator Lou Correa is losing by two votes to Andrew Do, who quit the Garden Grove City Council in 2011, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

Do was supported by former Supervisor Janet Nguyen and by the CA and OC GOP.

Correa had a lot of support from unions and from OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and OCDA Tony Rackauckas. Continue reading→

Correa takes a small lead as the First District election earlyresults are posted

The early results from today’s First District Special Election have been posted by the Orange County Registrar of Voters and former State Senator Lou Correa is in the lead by 149 votes. Former Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s henchman, Andrew Do, is in second place with 38.4% of the vote.

Garden Grove Councilman Chris Phan is in a distant third place with only 5,824 votes. While he did a lot of walking he didn’t get in the mailboxes and that is crucial in low turnout special elections. Continue reading→

Charges against Carlos Bustamante reduced again by a second Judge

Judge John D. Conley on Friday dismissed several sex-related felony charges against Carlos Bustamante, a former Santa Ana City Councilman and Orange County Public Works administrator, who still faces felony counts of false imprisonment, stalking, attempted sexual battery and grand theft, plus four misdemeanors, according to the O.C. Register.

Conley’s ruling mirrors a previous ruling from Judge Kazuharu Makino, who oversaw Bustamante’s preliminary hearing in May 2014. Makino tossed out multiple felony charges for lack of evidence. Continue reading→

Unless Lou Correa starts attacking Andrew Do, he is going to lose big on 1/27

Do is kissing up to those old, white voters…

I hate to say this but after seeing two of Lou Correa’s First District campaign mailers I am convinced that he is going to lose. He is running the same tepid campaign that helped Jose Solorio get his butt kicked in the November General Election, by Janet Nguyen, over in the race for the 34th State Senate District.

Why isn’t Correa attacking Andrew Do – Nguyen’s former Chief of Staff? While Correa is blowing hundreds of thousands sending “nice” mailers replete with pictures of him painting over graffiti, Do is busy working the Viet community – and Do’s mailers are clearly geared to the old, white Republican voters who still matter in the First District.

Correa’s campaign seems to be entirely focused on Latino voters – just like Solorio’s was. They didn’t vote last year in either the Primary or the General Election. Why would they vote in a Special Election in January? They are not going to! And no amount of pandering by Correa to the Viet voters is going to convince any of them not to vote for Do! Andrew Do blew off the First District Candidates Forum in Santa Ana

Predictably Andrew Do blew off the First District candidates forum that was held in Santa Ana yesterday. Why would he want to put himself in a position to have to explain why he quit the Garden Grove City Council in 2011 or answer the questions about whether or not he actually lived in Garden Grove at that time?

The rest of the candidates showed up including Lou Correa, Chuyen Van Nguyen, Chris Phan, Lupe Moreno and a write-in candidate, Mark I. Lopez.
