The Santa Ana Public Library proudly presents an adult education workshop for preventing child abuse and abduction. The program will be presented by Erin D. Runnion, founder and director of The Joyful Child Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse and abduction.

In Memory of Samantha Runnion, this nonprofit organization is dedicated to preventing crimes against children through programs that educate, empower, and unite families and communities. Samantha was kidnapped and murdered in 2002. Erin is dedicated to ensuring Samantha’s tragic death continues to be a catalyst to engage adults in our collective responsibility in protecting our nation’s children. Continue reading→

Community Alert: FREE CONFIDENT CYCLING CLASSES / CLASES PARA ANDAR EN CICICLETA CON SEGURIDAS GRATIS

The City of Santa Ana, through an Office of Traffic Safety grant, is offering free Confident Cycling Classes to any interested residents this spring and summer. The classes, taught by instructors certified through the League of American Bicyclists, will teach participants how to ride safely and with confidence along streets with vehicle traffic.

Sessions will take place at various locations on several weekends, beginning on April 16th at the Santa Ana Red Cross center. A limited number of classes will be taught completely in Spanish, and there will be a pair of class sessions exclusively for local teens. All class participants will receive a FREE bicycle helmet and set of bike lights.

Advisory: SAPD looking for missing 14 year-old female

On Friday, 3-25-2016, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers responded to Fitz Intermediate School, 4600 West McFadden Street for a critical missing minor.

School staff informed officers that at 12:00 p.m., the 14 year old student, Clarissa Jacqueline Serafin (a 14 year old Hispanic female) walked away from Fitz Intermediate School after leaving a note that indicated she might harm herself. Continue reading→

Description: Male, Asian, 4’11”, 119 pounds, gray hair, black eyes. Last seen wearing blue and white horizontal striped shirt, blue jeans, and brown sandals. Prasert Sornnoi was wearing a lanyard with a name tag containing his personal information at the time he went missing.

Last seen: Sornnoi was left alone in a vehicle parked at 1600 block West Edinger Avenue, Santa Ana while his roommate went into an office building for an appointment. When the roommate returned Sornnoi was not in the vehicle. Continue reading→

First Zika Case Confirmed in Orange County Resident

(Santa Ana) – Testing by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirms that an Orange County resident has tested positive for Zika virus. The individual, a Costa Mesa resident, is a male in his 40s who contracted the virus in late January during travel to Central America and presented symptoms in early February. He was not seriously ill and has recovered. The Health Care Agency has contacted the individual to provide counseling to prevent transmission.

Zika is an infectious disease caused by the Zika virus. Most infected people have no symptoms; for the minority that do, symptoms typically include fever, rash, joint pain and/or red eyes. The greatest concern is related to the possible association between Zika infection in pregnant women and microcephaly (abnormally small head and brain) in newborns. Continue reading→

Missing 95-year-old Santa Ana man died in a car accident in Irvine at 4 a.m.

Jack Edwin Winchester, a missing 95-year-old Santa Ana man died after driving off the 73 Toll Road and onto Bonita Canyon Drive in Irvine, according to the O.C. Register.

The crash happened just before 4 a.m., after the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was reported traveling north in the southbound lanes of the 73, according to the California Highway Patrol. Continue reading→

Trichloroethylene Detected in Indoor Air Samples at Santa Ana Site

(Santa Ana) – Information provided by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) indicates that several chemicals have been detected in soil, groundwater and in air at 1224 E. Pomona St. in the City of Santa Ana. DTSC has been conducting sampling of the soil, soil gas, groundwater and indoor air at and around this former plating facility and will be using this information to develop a plan to remove the chemical contamination. Several of the chemicals detected are considered human carcinogens and/or cause other toxic effects to humans. Continue reading→

Speeding car caused a fatal crash this morning that closed the N. Bristol and W. First St. intersection

A high-speed crash left one person dead and two others sought by police in Santa Ana Monday morning, according to KTLA News.

The accident happened this morning just after 2 a.m. when a driver in a silver Mercedes Benz ran a red light while speeding southbound at the intersection of North Bristol Street and West 1st St., according to the O.C. Register.

The speeding driver broadsided a red Ford Mustang that was headed eastbound through the intersection, fatally injury the Mustang’s driver, Mitchell Viturino, 61, of Fullerton. Continue reading→
