UPDATE: Arrest of suspect in Skyhi Clothing Beating
Arrestee: Alfonso Calderon, Age 21
On September 30, 2012 @ 0030, there was a party at Skyhi Clothing, 2701 S. Orange Ave #T Santa Ana, CA. Officers responded to a call of a party with loud music that resulted with police shutting the party down. After the officers left the location the victim got into an argument with the suspects. The argument escalated and the suspects began punching the victim in the face. One punch knocked the victim out, causing him to fall backwards, ultimately striking his head on the ground. The assault on the victim continued after he was knocked out. The suspects ultimately fled the scene. As a result from the assault the victim was in a coma for a couple weeks. He is currently out now from the coma, but is suffering from permanent brain damage. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, California – A dozen people associated with a chain of nine marijuana stores that operated across Orange and Los Angeles counties were arrested this morning on federal drug trafficking charges. The 12 arrested are among 14 people named in a 14-count indictment returned last week by a federal grand jury. Continue reading
Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: SAPD Traffic Collision Investigation
On 10/22/12, 1325 hours, officers responded to an injury traffic collision near the intersection of MacArthur and Harbor Blvd. It was reported that a motorcyclist was still lying in the street.
When Officers arrived, it was determined that the motorcyclist was the only party involved. The investigation concluded the motorcyclist was traveling at approximately 30 MPH when he had just changed lanes behind a vehicle that stopped suddenly. The motorcyclist braked and laid down his bike to avoid the vehicle and was then thrown from the bike. Continue reading

On October 19, 2012, at approximately 0054 hrs, officers responded to the 4500 block of Westminster Ave on a call involving a subject down. Upon arrival officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The Orange County Fire Authority responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: GANG MEMBER CHARGED WITH ATTACKING YOUNG BOY ON HIS WAY TO SOCCER PRACTICE ON SANTA ANA PARK TRAIL
SANTA ANA – A gang member has been charged with attacking a 10-year-old boy who was on his way to soccer practice by grabbing him on a park trail and smelling the victim’s arm. Victor Joseph Espinoza, 55, Santa Ana, has been charged with one felony count each of false imprisonment and street terrorism with sentencing enhancements for committing a crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang and a prior strike conviction for street terrorism in 2007. If convicted, Espinoza faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. The People will be requesting that the defendant be held on $250,000 bail at his arraignment today, Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Arrest of sexual assault suspect Damian Reyes
On June 29, 2012, at approximately 0130 hours, the suspect broke into a residence in the 1500 block of North Ross through an unlocked window. The suspect then climbed into a top bunk bed where an 8 year-old girl was sleeping. The suspect sexually assaulted her, and while doing so, woke up the victim’s 13 year-old sister who was asleep on the bottom bed. Both girls screamed and woke up their father who ran to their aid. The suspect immediately fled the residence through the same window and was last seen running southbound on Ross. A sexual assault exam revealed findings consistent to being sexually assaulted. Everest College in Santa Ana will be hosting a blood drive with the American Red Cross, an event they put together every three months as a way of contributing to the community, on Oct. 10, from 8 am to 2 pm.
