Victim drove away after being shot by gang members near El Salvador Park

At about 7:30 PM last night, an unidentified victim was in a vehicle with some friends in the area of 1100 North English when three gang member suspects approached them. Two of the suspects opened the doors to the car and attempted to take the victim’s personal property, according to the SAPD’s Case Number 16-24510.

After a brief struggle, one of the suspects shot the victim. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremity. As the victim drove away the suspect(s) continued shooting at the vehicle. The victim was admitted into a local hospital in serious condition. Continue reading→

Stabbing homicide involving a juvenile at W. 1st St. and Fairview

A male 17-year old juvenile was stabbed and killed in Santa Ana today, according to the SAPD, Case Number 16-23667.

At about 12:50 p.m., SAPD police officers responded to the Santa Ana Riverbed at 2700 W. First Street and found the male juvenile stabbing victim. Continue reading→

Will the Santa Ana City Council waste millions by renewing their trash contract with Waste Management tomorrow?

Did you know that Santa Ana’s longtime trash contract with Waste Management is coming to an end soon? This is a big deal as we have had a contract in place with Waste Management since 1993. The last time this contract came up for renewal it was put to bid via a Request for Proposal (RFP) and the taxpayers saved millions of dollars when Waste Management had to win the bid by lowering their massive price.

The City of Santa Ana got the latest renewal process started when they sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a trash consultant to develop a new contract, in September of last year. Continue reading→

There was a shooting involving an assault rifle, on West Willits, this morning

Santa Ana’s assorted criminals, bad guys and thugs must not have read yesterdays puff piece by inexperienced and ineffective SAPD Police Chief Carlos Rojas, falsely claiming that crime has gone down on his watch. We already reported one shooting incident that happened today and now we have another one to report.

Early this morning at about 6 a.m., multiple 911 calls were made reporting a shooting in the area of 1500 West Willits, in Santa Ana, according to SAPD Case Number 16-23391. Continue reading→

Urging County of Orange to Open Former Transit Terminal for Homeless Services

Santa Ana, CA – Facing mounting public health and safety impacts in the Civic Center and throughout Santa Ana, Mayor Pro Tem Vicente Sarmiento, Councilwoman Michele Martinez and Councilmember Roman Reyna will bring forward a resolution before the Santa Ana City Council declaring a public health and safety crisis related to the large concentration of homeless and urging the County of Orange to take immediate action to provide services to the homeless at the Santa Ana Transit Terminal which the County owns and controls. The item will appear on the September 6th Council Agenda for consideration of the full City Council. The resolution also calls for a number of improvements to enhance public health and safety within the Civic Center and for the support of all Orange County cities to adopt a resolution encouraging action by the County of Orange. Ward 5 City Council candidate Juan Villegas to kick off his campaign on 9/7

Santa Ana Ward 5 City Council candidate Juan Villegas, a law enforcement officer with 25 years of experience fighting crime, is hosting the kick-off to his campaign on Wednesday, Sep. 7, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Santa Ana Police Officer Association Hall, located at 1607 N. Sycamore, in Santa Ana.

Villegas is running against an incumbent, Councilman Roman Reyna, who recently voted against hiring more police officers despite the huge increase in violent crime over the past three years. Reyna’s brother reportedly died in prison and Reyna himself has admitted to being shot and wounded at a park when he was younger. When Reyna ran for Mayor of Santa Ana he was caught posing with members of the Mexican Mafia, in a picture that was widely circulated on social media. There was another shooting on Monday, August 15, 2016, shortly after 7:30 p.m. at 2000 West 1st, in Santa Ana, near N. Raitt St.

A 23-year-old male Hispanic was walking in the area when an unknown vehicle approached from behind and a male suspect exited the car. The suspect fired several times at the victim. Continue reading→

When Santa Ana Ward 5 City Councilman Roman Reyna first ran for the Santa Ana City Council, way back in 2004, he was thoroughly spanked by City Council Member Claudia Alvarez, whose ballot title included “Deputy D.A.”

Alvarez trounced Reyna in that election by almost sixteen thousand votes, according to Smart Voter.

Now Reyna is once more staring down the barrel of a gun as a law enforcement officer with 26 years experience at the O.C. Sheriff’s Department, Juan Villegas, is running against him in the upcoming November Primary Election. Will Villegas’s title result in another lopsided loss for Reyna? Continue reading→

Santa Ana’s Ward 5 City Councilman Roman Reyna voted against hiring more Santa Ana police officers this year – and when Reyna ran for Mayor a couple of years ago we caught him posing with a couple of members of the Mexican Mafia. Now the chickens have come home to roost for Reyna as Juan Villegas, an Orange County Law Enforcement Officer, has filed to run against him in Santa Ana’s Ward 5 this November.

Villegas openly addresses the alarming increase in crime here in Santa Ana during Reyna’s watch, on his campaign website. That is exactly the message that Santa Ana’s voters are looking for as folks are just fed up with the daily shootings and violence that have happened since Reyna joined with the others in the current City Council majority to dump our former Chief of Police, Paul Walters, and to get rid of the Santa Ana Police Department’s Gang Task Force. Is the under-reporting of crime in Santa Ana an election year tactic?

Over the last few days two major crimes occurred in Santa Ana that were not reported by the media. In one case a man stole a car in Anaheim and led police on a pursuit that ended when he crashed into Santa Ana’s Walmart. And in another a security guard at Original Mike’s was shot.

While it is true that the O.C. Register is hurting and probably not well-staffed one has to wonder if the under-reporting of crime in Santa Ana is an election year tactic. Continue reading→

A man was shot to death at Washington Ave. and King St. on Wed. night

A man was shot at the intersection of Washington Ave. and King Street, in Santa Ana, on Wednesday night, just after 10 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.

When the police arrived they found the man had been injured with multiple gun shots. He was declared dead at the scene by OCFA paramedics. The police then closed down the adjacent streets while they investigated the murder. Continue reading→

Man and woman shot multiple times at First St. and Clara St. in Santa Ana

An unidentified man and woman were injured by multiple gunshots after an unknown suspect shot at them several times near First Street and Clara Street last night, according to the O.C. Register.

A witness called the SAPD at around 11 p.m. last night to report the shooting.

Both of the victims ended up at a local hospital and were expected to survive, but were in critical condition. Continue reading→

Councilman Reyna opposes hiring more SAPD police officers

City Council members adopted a balanced, $228.9 million 2016-17 fiscal year budget on Tuesday with only one tweak – dedicating projected surplus funds to hiring more police officers, according to the O.C. Register.

The City Council voted to spend an extra $1.5 million and $2 million from the current fiscal year on more cops. Except for one Council Member – Roman Reyna. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana City Council majority has granted a 5 percent, $17,000 performance bonus to City Manager David Cavazos, who is the highest-paid city manager in Santa Ana history, according to the O.C. Register.

Kudos to Mayor Miguel Pulido and Councilwoman Michele Martinez for opposing this ridiculous bonus. To pay Cavazos even more money while our nation is slipping into another recession and while our city is in the midst of a gang war that the City Council refuses to acknowledge is simply mind-boggling. A man was shot by an SAPD police officer on North Parton St. last night

We reported last night about a drive by shooting that wounded a man in his 20s at the 1000 block of North Parton. Our readers indicated that there was a second man injured as well. Today we know the details about that second victim.

It turns out the second man was shot by an SAPD police officer, according to the O.C. Register. The police have not indicated yet if the second shooting was related to the first one. Continue reading→
