Twin Ocelots “Spotted” at the Santa Ana Zoo!

SANTA ANA, Calif. – What is black, white and orange all over? Twin Ocelot kittens! Born August 20th at the Santa Ana Zoo, this purr-fect duo have been bonding with their mother in their den, and are now enjoying their new home within our Ocelot Exhibit and Education Center. The twin births mark the second pregnancy for their mother. Her first offspring, a beautiful male, left the Santa Ana Zoo earlier this year to start a family of his own at the LA Zoo and Botanical Garden. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Zoo will host a Veteran’s Day Celebration on Nov. 11

The Santa Ana Zoo is hosting a Veteran’s Day Celebration on November 11, 2015. Doors will open at 10:00 a.m.
The ceremony will start at 11:00 a.m. The Zoo will close at dusk.

This unique event is to honor people who have served in the U.S Armed Forces. Admission is free for Veterans and their immediate families. Barbeque and free rides on the zoo’s train and carousel will be provided during the day. Continue reading→

Community Alert: Santa Ana Zoo’s 2015 “Rockin’ Round The Zoo” at Zoofari High Black-Tie Fundraiser Tickets Now on Sale

The Friends of Santa Ana Zoo (FOSAZ), a non-profit organization, are pleased to announce tickets sales, media and sponsorship opportunities for its 23rd annual “Rockin’ Round the Zoo” at Zoofari High fundraising event are now generally available for purchase online or by calling (714) 953-8555 x10.

Tickets to this year’s exclusive black-tie gala under the stars are $250 each or $2,500 for a private table of 10. All tickets must be purchased in advance of the event, which will take place Saturday, August 29 from 5:30 pm to midnight at the Santa Ana Zoo in Prentice Park located at 1801 Chestnut Avenue in Santa Ana. The Santa Ana Zoo shouldn’t be handed to organizations that lack diversity

The financially struggling city will seek proposals early next year for a private entity to take over Santa Ana Zoo operations,” according to the O.C. Register.

Sooner or later the City of Santa Ana is going to have to cut the Santa Ana Zoo loose. “There seems to be consensus that the city-owned zoo should be privatized. But very much in play has been who would run it: The Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo (which made its public pitch last year), the Discovery Science Center (the subject of recent rumor), or some third entity,” according to Frank Mickadeit over at the O.C.
