Santa Ana, CA – Yesterday at the City Council Meeting, City Manager Raul Godinez II announced the City Council’s confirmation of David Valentin as City of Santa Ana’s 21st Police Chief. Valentin has more than 28 years of experience in law enforcement within the Santa Ana Police Department. David Valentin will be sworn in as Police Chief at the upcoming City Council Meeting on Tuesday, March 6th at 5:45 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 22 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, CA 92701. Santa Ana, CA – Today, the mayors of the eleven largest cities in California and a bi-partisan group of state lawmakers announced the introduction of AB 3171, which allocates $1.5 billion from the state budget to help address the growing homeless crisis. Assemblyman Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) and State Senator Ricardo Lara (D-Bell Gardens) will champion the effort in their respective houses.
“Homelessness is first and foremost a humanitarian crisis, but it is also the single greatest threat to the economic prosperity, opportunity and growth our cities are fighting for,” said Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, who leads the Big 11. “We are on the front lines of providing compassionate and effective solutions to this issue, and we request that our state partners make alleviating homelessness in our cities an even greater priority.” Continue reading
Amy Martinez, a 12-year-old girl, was walking to Lathrop Intermediate School this morning when an apparently deranged 34-year-old homeless woman, Claudia Cruz Hernandez, aka Claudia Hernandez Diaz, put her in what Martinez referred to as a bear hug and started walking away with her, according to KTLA.
Martinez bravely screamed for help – and Hernandez responded in Spanish by admonishing the little girl not to cry. Continue reading

Community: City of Santa Ana Announces New Homeless Services Manager
SANTA ANA, CA (February 12, 2018) – The City of Santa Ana welcomes Hafsa Kaka (pronounced Kay-ka), the City’s new Homeless Services Manager. Hafsa has made a career as a homeless services professional, working over ten years as a Social Worker providing a variety of services to individuals, including youth and adults experiencing homelessness. She will be joining us from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, where she served as the Coordinated Entry System Coordinator (CES). In this role, she provided oversight and guidance to various agencies in identifying and supporting system level gaps and barriers. She also coordinated community coalitions and networked with stakeholders to impact and facilitate policies and protocols within homeless services. In addition, Hafsa engaged in oversight and planning of permanent supportive housing projects integrated with CES throughout the County of Los Angeles. Continue reading

Manuel Nava, a 21-year-old man already facing charges on suspicion of molesting three children was charged Friday with suspicion of harassing a 17-year-old cheerleader at Century High School in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The OCDA is prosecuting Nava for allegedly molesting two boys and a girl. One of the boys was 6-years-old and the other was 11. The girl was 14 when she was allegedly attacked by Nava. Continue reading
If you thought you heard a police pursuit in Santa Ana yesterday evening you were right. Two males, one adult and one juvenile, sped off during a routine traffic stop, at 5:20 p.m. and led police on a pursuit that ended in their arrest, according to the O.C. Register.
The incident ended when the suspects crashed their vehicle at First Street between Elk Lane and Wright Street, in Santa Ana, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

Irvine, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2018) – Irvine Police Department detectives on Thursday arrested the suspect in a purse snatching that turned violent a week before.
Jennifer Nicole Burner, 34, was arrested in Santa Ana, where she resides. Irvine Police Department detectives identified Burner thanks to an anonymous tip from the public that came in after media coverage highlighting the crime. Continue reading

On 2/12/18, at 10:53 p.m., the suspect entered a business located in the 3700 block of W. McFadden and assaulted the victim. The suspect pointed a semi-auto handgun at the victim and demanded money. The suspect then struck the victim on the head several times with the handgun while pulling her hair. The suspect violently attacked the victim and strangled her while preventing her from escaping. Advisory: Detectives Investigating Child Abuse Case, Child Remains On Life Support

UPDATE: Sad to report one year old baby has passed away. Detectives are now investigating this case as a homicide.
On Monday, February 12, 2018, at approximately 7:56 AM, Santa Ana Police officers were dispatched to the Royal Roman Motel for a call of a one year old baby not breathing. Upon arrival, the child was found non-responsive and CPR was provided. Paramedics arrived and transported the child to Orange County Global Medical Center. The child was transferred to Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) where he remains in critical condition and on life-support. Continue reading

Tuesday, February 13 is vital for re-claiming the Santa Ana River Trail (SART) for use and enjoyment by the public.
County of Orange enforcement efforts have reduced the number of tents in the SART homeless camp by 41% since January 22. Radical homeless advocates are suing in federal court to stop that effort and prevent the County and the cities of Anaheim, Orange and Costa Mesa from enforcing anti-camping and loitering laws on the SART and in city parks.
