The SAPD received a call of a shooting into an occupied parked vehicle at 1705 E. Normandy on Saturday morning at about 1 a.m.

Groups from El Centro Cultural de Mexico and Santa Ana’s Community Artists have failed, by their own admission in a recent issued statement, to bring a social justice lens to Santa Ana’s first Arts and Culture Master Plan.
Despite having seats on the arts and culture master planning committee table and being represented as stakeholders in planning focus groups where they influenced the plan in meetings, group members have claimed — after the plan was passed on Tuesday August 16th — that the plan has “no social justice lens” as quoted in a recent OC Weekly article Santa Ana City Council Approves 10-Year Arts and Culture Master Plan. Sheriff Hutchens Outlines Efforts to Harden OC Men’s Jail
SANTA ANA, Ca. (August 19, 2016) – Sheriff Sandra Hutchens released additional details today about the January 22, 2016 escape of inmates Hossein Nayeri, Bac Duong, and Jonathan Tieu from OC Central Men’s Jail (CMJ) and the improvements made to harden the CMJ in the six months since the escape.

Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido has won his seat eleven times. The last few years he has faced a string of challengers who at least on paper looked somewhat legitimate – but he beat them all, including Council Members Michele Martinez, David Benavides and Roman Reyna as well as criminal defense attorney Alfredo Amezcua.
Now Pulido, who his detractors at times refer to as “Papi” (Spanish for father) is facing perhaps his most interesting challenger yet – local teacher Benjamin Vazquez, who apparently likes to be referred to as “Don” (a Spanish honorific that is usually reserved for royalty, select nobles, and church hierarchs, it is also often used as a mark of esteem for a person of personal, social or official distinction, such as a community leader of long standing, a person of significant wealth, or a noble, according to Wikipedia). At about 11 o’clock this morning a Santa Ana City Council Member called 911 to report witnessing a strong arm robbery in front of their office, near 1600 E. 4th Street, according to the SAPD. (Note that Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Vince Sarmiento’s office is located at 1617 E. 4th St., according to the California State Bar).

Zeke Hernandez, a candidate for Area 1 of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, is trying to pull a fast one, using the ballot title of “Adult Education Director.” That is a complete falsehood!
Hernandez admitted in a letter he wrote to the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Chancellor, just last year, to being retired. That letter was part of Hernandez’ application to the Measure Q Bond Oversight Committee.
Furthermore the application Hernandez completed to serve on the RSCCD Measure Q Bond committee states an applicant cannot be a district vendor. However during interviews this Monday with the current Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustees, it emerged that Hernandez is the chief executive of a district contractor, according to the Voice of OC. SAUSD School Board candidate Mark McLoughlin is willfully lying to the voters by alleging in his ballot title that he is an “Educator.” That is simply not true. And he has been called on this lie by a resident of Santa Ana who filed a challenge to McLoughlin’s ballot title today at the Orange County Voter Registrar’s office.

Person of Interest in Fatal Motorcycle Accident Located
Santa Ana, Ca. (August 18, 2016) – On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau investigators arrested Damon Ellery Block, 41, following an investigation of a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon.
On August 1, 2016, a fatal vehicle vs. motorcycle accident occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon. The driver of the motorcycle died, and the female passenger on the motorcycle was severely injured. The driver of the vehicle (Honda) fled the scene and was not located after an extensive search of the area. Continue reading→

Ordinarily a fellow named Matthew Schauer would not have much of a shot at getting elected to Area 1 of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, which includes central Santa Ana. But this year might be different. He is running against two Latino candidates who just might split the Latino vote, allowing Schauer to prevail in the November election.
Schauer was appointed to the Santa Ana Housing and Redevelopment Commission by Council Member Sal Tinajero. Schauer is the Warehouse & Inventory Control and Purchasing Manager at CalPack Foods, according to his Linkedin page. On 08/17/16 at 12:10 am, an SAPD K-9 officer was driving northbound in the 2400 block of South Bristol Street when he was flagged down by witnesses of a hit and run traffic collision. They directed the officer to a female pedestrian that was lying in the street. The pedestrian was unresponsive. The witnesses indicated that a silver SUV or minivan was northbound in the #1 lane of Bristol Street in front of them when it struck the pedestrian. The vehicle never slowed and continued to the red light at Warner Avenue. Once the red left turn arrow turned to green, the silver vehicle fled the scene westbound on Warner and out of sight. The Santa Ana City Council, at their meeting last night, considered a proposal by Mayor Miguel Pulido to vie a 5% pay increase to experienced SAPD police officers who have been with the SAPD for more than 15 years. (Agenda item 85A).
Morale has been a real problem at the SAPD, due to their low staffing numbers and a lack of leadership from their inexperienced Police Chief, Carlos Rojas, as crime has spiraled out of control in our city. I would imagine that Pulido’s proposal is meant to keep our veteran police officers as many of them have been leaving the city for other police agencies – something that NEVER happened under former SAPD Police Chief Paul Walters.
