Advisory: West Nile virus Update from the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District
The number of adult mosquitoes that have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) in 2016 has more than doubled in the past week, bringing the total to 113 samples collected in 22 Orange County cities (see chart below). The findings are compounded by the announcement of the first human West Nile virus infection by the Orange County Health Care Agency on August 3rd, underscoring the importance of mosquito breeding and bite prevention. The OCDA may file charges against Dennis Rodman for a wrong-way driving incident on the 5 Fwy.
Retired NBA player Dennis Rodman, who once played for the Lakers, is waiting to see if prosecutors will file charges against him in an alleged hit-and-run accident, according to the O.C. Register.
To date Rodman has not been cited or arrested, according to the CHP. However the agency did recommend that the OCDA charge Rodman with felony hit-and-run and driving the wrong way on a freeway. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A speeding driver was convicted yesterday and sentenced to 11 years in state prison for killing two people by crashing into their car after driving through a stop sign in Santa Ana. Jorge Ocampo, 24, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty yesterday, Aug. 4, 2016, to two felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, one felony count of hit and run with permanent injury or death, one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license, and admitted to fleeing the scene after committing vehicular manslaughter. Man shot at a female victim last night near Carr Intermediate School
SAPD police officers responded to the area of 2000 West Elder Ave., in Santa Ana, on a report of a shooting that had occurred shortly after midnight.
A female victim was located who said she was driving on Elder Street when a suspect exited his vehicle, in the middle of the street, and fired multiple times at her car. Thankfully the victim was not struck by the gunfire. Continue reading
Man shot by a gangbanger near Lathrop Intermediate School
A man was shot last night after 10 p.m. when he was sweeping a business parking lot in the 1100 block of South Main Street. He was confronted by a suspect who attempted to steal the victim’s bike and during the altercation, the victim was shot twice to the upper torso.
Top top it all off, during the incident the suspect declared his gang affiliation! The victim was transported to a local hospital for his injuries. Continue reading

FULLERTON, Calif. – A man was convicted today of stabbing and murdering an acquaintance after chasing and stalking him before fleeing to Mexico. Mario Alberto Rodriguez, 26, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. Rodriguez’s prior serious felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance for sale for the benefit of a criminal street gang in 2012 in Orange County was found true. Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of 36 years to life in state prison at his sentencing on Oct. 7, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department N-11, North Justice Center, Fullerton.
On March 9, 2013, Rodriguez saw 26-year-old acquaintance Paul Anthony Garcia in front of the defendant’s family’s home in Santa Ana, and chased him on foot. Rodriguez and two associates followed Garcia for a few blocks until he entered the El Chile Picante restaurant on South Main Street. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A former mosque volunteer is scheduled to be arraigned today on additional charges for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl who came forward after seeing media coverage of prior sexual assaults. Ahmad Henry Osman, 54, Tustin, is charged with seven felony counts of performing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14 and one felony count of oral copulation with a child 10 years or younger, with a sentencing enhancement allegation for multiple victims. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 105 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning, Aug. 2, 2016, in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Osman is accused of violating his position of trust as a volunteer at the Indo Chinese Islamic Center (IIC) in Santa Ana. At the time of the crimes, the defendant taught classes at IIC and befriended the victims and their family members. Continue reading

Homeless man shot by the police at Santa Ana’s Plaza of the Flags
BREAKING NEWS – Richard Gene Swihart, a 32-year-old homeless man, has been shot by an SAPD police officer, at Santa Ana’s Plaza of the Flags, at the Civic Center. The man was hit in the upper torso and was undergoing surgery, according to the O.C. Register.
The O.C. Register has confirmed that the shooting was by an SAPD police officer, outside the courthouse. Continue reading
