Santa Ana City Council members Angie Amezcua, Roman Reyna, Vince Sarmiento and Sal Tinajero voted on Tuesday evening this week to approv a 2.5 percent salary increase this fiscal year for their executive management staff, as well as another 2.5 percent increase in July 2016, according to the Voice of OC.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was charged yesterday for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, who was waiting on a curb in line for Christmas presents at a school. Raul Marin Martin, 59, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, and allegations of having a prior conviction for a sex offense, committing a serious and violent felony while on probation, and committing a lewd act on a child by a stranger, which if found true, would render the defendant ineligible for probation. He also faces sentencing enhancements for a prior 2014 serious and violent strike conviction. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in state prison. Martin is scheduled for a continued arraignment on Jan. 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Carlos “CJ” Salcito Sales Jr., 25, of Santa Ana, a former, part-time baseball coach at Segerstrom High School in Santa Ana, has been arrested on suspicion of sending sexually explicit text messages to a Huntington Beach boy, according to the O.C. Register.
Sales was arrested on Friday by Huntington Beach police on charges of attempted lewd and lascivious conduct and for contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense. Continue reading→

On December 13, 2015, at approximately three-thirty in the afternoon, a citizen called in a report of a man possibly deceased at Heritage Park, 4800 block West Camile.
When officers arrived, they found a man lying on ground in his sleeping bag. The decedent had gunshot wounds to his upper body and it appeared might have been shot as he slept. Continue reading→

On 12/12/15, the Santa Ana Police Department arrested Raul Martin, 59, of Santa Ana, for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
During the morning hours of 12/12/15, there was a gift / food give-a-way being held at Davis Elementary School, 1405 N. Spurgeon, Santa Ana. This give-a-way attracted a large crowd of families from the neighborhood. Local Group Raises $1,500 for Nonprofit Community Service Programs at Santa Ana Lunch
Forget about “ladies who lunch.” The 35 women who make up “Chew for Charity,” a group that raises funds and awareness for Community Service Programs (CSP), has been meeting monthly since 2007 and has raised more than $80,000 for CSP, a nonprofit that provides counseling and support services to struggling OC children and families at their greatest time of need. Every contribution collected, lunch organized, detail buttoned down is all volunteer-driven.
On December 8, the latest Chew for Charity meeting was held at Antonello Ristorante in Santa Ana and raised $1,500 for CSP.
For nearly a decade, the guild has met monthly and has been known to raise up to $12,000 to $15,000 a year for CSP. Community Service Programs Board Member Barbara Steensland has spearheaded the group and this year the co-chairs are Margaret Jamison and Kaysene Miller. Continue reading→
SAPD detectives have confirmed today that the 55-year-old homeless man who was found dead at Heritage Park on Sunday was shot and killed while sleeping, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim had been living in the area for an extended period of time. He was found shot to death in his sleeping bag at around 3:30 p.m., in a fenced area with grass just outside of Heritage Park, located at 4812 W. Camille St., next to Heritage Elementary School.
The SAPD reported that the victim had a gunshot wound in his upper body, and it appeared that he may have been asleep when he was murdered. Continue reading→

A townhome complex located at 3600 Bear St., in Santa Ana caught fire on Saturday afternoon at around 4:50 p.m., according to the O.C. Fire Authority’s Twitter page.
Thirty firefighters responded to the fire, from the OCFA and the Costa Mesa and Fountain Valley Fire Departments.

An unidentified dead man was found near a water canal at Santa Ana’s Heritage Park today, at 3:30 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.
