Investigators Seeking Public’s Assistance Identifying Hit and Run Suspect Vehicle

STANTON, Calif. – (May 8, 2014) – On Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian victim was struck by the vehicle as he crossed the street near the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Beach Boulevard in the city of Stanton. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid at the scene and fled westbound on Chapman Avenue.

The 24 year-old male victim was critically injured as a result of the collision and remains hospitalized in the burn unit recovering from his injuries. He suffered burns and abrasions to over 20 percent of his body and a severe laceration to his head requiring 38 staples. Continue reading→

CRITICAL JUVENILE RUNAWAY FROM ORANGEWOOD CHILDREN’S HOME

ORANGE, California – (May 7, 2014) – On Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Brittany Georgia Mitchell walked away from the Orangewood Children’s Home with two other juvenile females. Brittany’s juvenile companions returned to the Children’s Home shortly after leaving; however, Brittany did not. She was last seen at the Outlets at Orange (“The Block at Orange”) located across the street from Orangewood Children’s Home. The preliminary information is that Mitchell is known to frequent the Anaheim area.

Anyone with information regarding Mitchell’s location or with information they believe may assist in this investigation is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department at (714) 647-7000 OR (714) 936-0763. Segerstrom Varsity Baseball Team to play at Angels Stadium

The Segerstrom Boys Varsity Baseball team is going to play at Angels Stadium in a special league game vs. Orange High School this Friday, May 9 at 3:30.

Admission is free to watch the game and also to park at the stadium. Please enter through the Orangewood parking entrance. The gates under the big red helmets will be open for entrance. All family and friends of Segerstrom baseball in our community are welcome to attend. Continue reading→

OC Human Relations’ Legacy Awards to Honor Orange County’s Civil Rights Heroes on May 8
*Commemorating 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act*

In December, 1964, Dorothy Mulkey, an African American Orange County resident, challenged Proposition 14 after a Santa Ana landlord refused to rent a vacant apartment to her family. The ACLU took the Mulkey v. Reitman case all the way to the United States Supreme Court, and in 1967 the court declared Prop 14 unconstitutional. Landlords no longer could refuse to rent to people because of their skin color, religion or ethnicity.

Robert Johnson has been deeply involved in advocacy for fair housing in Orange County since 1966. He worked tirelessly for almost three decades to eliminate segregation of African Americans in the county through the Orange County Fair Housing Council and co-founded the Orange County Community Housing Corporation in 1978 to provide housing for extremely low-income people.
Mulkey and Johnson will receive one of 10 awards to be presented by OC Human Relations at The Legacy Awards: Honoring Orange County’s Civil Rights Heroes on Thursday, May 8 at The City National Grove of Anaheim. Continue reading→

Murder victim identified at 2900 North Bristol

Victim Identified: Homicide 2900 block North Bristol

On May 6th at 0232 AM, Officers responded to a shooting call at 2900 block N Bristol and found the victim VIDAL QUEVEDO (27), Santa Ana, with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The Victim was found in the north alley/parking lot of the apartment complex. Victim Quevedo was transported to UCI Medical Center where a short time later he died of his injuries.

Witnesses heard 1-2 shots fired and two possible male suspects were observed running from the scene. Continue reading→

A protest by the OC May Day Coalition will take place at the Santa Ana City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 5:30 pm, regarding the contract between ICE and the SAPD. The SAPD is paid to jail immigrants who are arrested.

Organizers ask that you “Come early to sign up for public comments and let the council know that we are tired of them paying off their debt at the expense of our hard working immigrant communities. Not 1 more! No mas deportaciones!”

LAPD officer Roberto Sanchez, from Santa Ana, killed in hit and run crash

An LAPD officer, Roberto Sanchez, 32, of Santa Ana, was killed, and another officer was critically wounded, after an SUV crashed into the driver’s side of a Los Angeles Police Department patrol car in Harbor City on May 3, 2014., police said, according to KTLA News.

Sanchez was driving the police cruiser. He was taken to Harbor UCLA Medical Center in critical condition following the crash. according to ABC News. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Lawn Bowling Club no longer lists their members or officers on their website. Perhaps they took that information down after we revealed that hardly anyone from Santa Ana actually participates in this organization.

So who are these people who are using our public park for their own entertainment, even though most of them don’t live here? In 1935 & 1936 the 1st lawn bowling green in Santiago Park was constructed with public funding from the Work Projects Administration (WPA) program. In the summer of 1938 the first lawn bowl was rolled. Popularity of the sport created a need for the second “green” which was constructed in 1952. Continue reading→
